The starting 5 is cooked

I completely agree the starting five is not the best five. Carlos is over his head and not helping whatsoever. I like

JJ
Choppa
Bell or Davis
Freeman
Lampkin

Guess Westry ain't happening

I wouldn't factor on Chance being a meaningful contributer until next season. If he can't play in a 2 ot game against Youngstown St then I can't imagine him getting to an ACC level this year.

Choppa has shown something. I can see going with youth at this point.

It would be nice to get Davis some more time as well. But I think asking him to play on the exterior is odd. The coaching staff seems determined to force players to do things they are not capable of.

3 games in and the starting 5 needs an edit IMO. I see two options:

1/2 JJ
1/2 Moore
3 Bell
4 Freeman
5 Lampkin

or

1 JJ
2 Bell
3 Davis
4 Freeman
5 Lampkin

Neither option is ideal for obvious reasons. Goodness, we could really use Chance Westry right now. Do we have any other options?
Bell can't continue to be a starter.

I like the first option. JJ and Choppa.

LOL.

Bell can’t defend against Forwards.
Y’all want him covering guards??

Westry is still a myth at this point.

I’d like to see a bit more minutes for Petar.
Kid is a baller.

Dunno if we can start Choppa, since he’s a fouling machine on D.
But I do love his swag & mojo on O.
Kid is a scorer, and he knows it.

Honestly JJ could and should run the point and put Choppa at the 2. JJ created a lot today and Choppa can shoot. I’m done with the Carlos experiment
Right now, the key to the season is when Red comes to that realization. I really don't mean to single the kid out but his lack of ability is the lynchpin to the awfulness that follows. We won't be world beaters but I think we can at the very least be competitive.

We are a miss defensively.

According to KP our schedule adjusted D is the second worst amongst major conference teams (P4 or BE). And that #167 is probably kept down by the fact that there are still some preseason weights in KP that are helping it.

At least the worst team defensively is -- Georgetown,

LOL.

Bell is such a frustrating player. Should be the leader on this team.

Even THAT offers little comfort moving forward

Bell is our best defensive starter right now. Crazy but true.

I agree 100 percent. 2 games was a small sample, 3 games seems like 100 now and I’ve seen all I’ve needed to seen.

I know how loyal Boeheim was to his starters. Mostly that was good but it also can be bad. Red’s inability to part from Carlos is not a good thing. I am hoping he will progress towards starting Carlos and then pulling him after a couple minutes.

Can anyone answer why Lampkin doesn’t spend more time by the basket on offense? He did well today but might he not do weller if he played more traditional center? Is it because he can’t get down the floor fast?

And speaking of that, the guys in my seating area - I call them the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - were so frustrated by our not going fast on offense all the way to the basket. It looked like that play was “there,” but often they stopped at half court and then started throwing the ball around.

I really liked how Freeman came alive in the second half. I almost got the feeling that the light bulb went off: “Oh, so THIS is what I should be doing!”

carlos will be benched eventually and wont even be a symbolic starter...why should he? hes not a 5 star freshman...red needs to prioritze choppa and start recruiting him for next year...by giving him carlos' minutes now. all of them. or at least until westry plays.

pretty sure hes not 100%...not sure if he will get to 100% this year or not...but hes moving around like hes about 50 years old out there...and has said he has back problems that wont go away this year

i felt that it clicked for the team towards the last 5 mins of regulation...that is how they need to play...hopefully jj stays like that for the rest of the year...i had the feeling judah being gone would unleash jj and it seems it has

this team is eddie, jj, and freeman for me...everyone else is a support player (bell and maybe westry can also move up into that group, maybe)

You should never want the most one-dimensional player on your team to be the leader it sets a bad tone and isn't a good example for the younger players.
That's why I said should be. Kid has talent, just doesn't have the desire to do anything but shoot.

Bell looked like he got dinged up on the layup in the first half. He was moving badly.

He did and he was very tough on himself today after some misses. He had that possession when he missed 3 in a row and he was HOT at himself for quite a while.

I think the point is he doesn’t have to be 1 dimensional. He’s choosing to be that with suboptimal efforts on the defensive side. Anybody can learn to be a defensively decent player. Anybody with his length and athleticism for sure
