After every game we lose, I get super bummed about the state of the program. A few hours later, I typically come around and find some optimism.
Today there was a lot to like. The young guys on defense in particular played very well. I see a strong nucleus on the defensive side to build around.
Offense was putrid, but in that gross display there was a few good moments. Queeley looked the part. Jordan was bottled most the game, but he’s getting great experience early in his career.
I believe a lot of the offensive issues is play calling. We do not have the lineman to run up the middle. Quick slants, screens, and misdirection plays is what this offense needs. Can we utilize our tight ends please? Watching this offense the last two seasons, I’ve grown to dislike the spread. Leads to a lot of quick 3 and outs putting the defense in bad spots. I’d love to work from under center and put both Hackett and Benson on the line to run routes.
It ain’t much, but I was encouraged by the defense and young guys.
