These kids deserve better….

Shaw is but a small sliver.

I don't blame the fans. It's a history of poor decisions made by SU.

Along with a horrible local economy, huge employers leaving the area, people relocating, leaves, wind, the Dome being too cold, etc...

The last 3 show you don't get it and just want to mock the situation.

Home games should be blacked out within 90 miles if we don't have 40,000 people at the Dome for football(25,000 for hoops). I don't think that is unreasonable. This may give a jolt to the CNY community.

I can't believe there were no students there regardless of vacation. You stick around go the game, party, and head back on Sunday. It will be just as bad for the BC game.

CNY residents, SU students, alumni, and SU marketing share the blame for last game's attendance.

A big factor is that there's just too much college football on TV. Game attendance is down everywhere due to oversaturation. When SU was drawing in the late 80s and 1990s, there were a handful of TV games on Saturday and nothing during the week other than a few Thursday contests. It's a seven-day football feast now, which makes it's hard for mediocre programs to differentiate themselves.

Then, you have the fact that the home viewing experience is much better now. People can watch multiple games on great TVs and get information/comment about what they see in real-time online. There's a shared experience available there (e.g. the game threads on this board) that doesn't exist in person because WiFi in many stadiums is spotty.

Throw in the central New York economy and fact that SU kills buzz/momentum every season by starting slow, overscheduling early and playing marquis games in NYC and it's lot more complicated than saying Upstate New York fans are lame. The good news, I think, is that the fan experience at games is going to improve a lot in the next 10 years. There's a lot of start-up and tech money going into the fan experience. The small size of the Carrier Dome and good sight lines actually offer some interesting possibilities compared to the big SEC stadiums.

BANDWAGON FANS GO HOME i agreed then and agree now. i was also scared to death and bought a underground, black raider tshirt out of some guys pantleg for $10 in a preemptive survival effort, i digress but the point remains... it says alot

I agree with you. But the longer you suck the longer you hemorrhage fans (good and band wagon). We need to be competitive with best and need to schedule our way to a bowl most years.

I was a my Dad's house for the FSU game. I was the only diehard - everyone else would wander through and mutter things about how bad we were. Call them stupid and band wagon - but if you want to fill the dome, you have to win these types of fans back. It's stupid - but true.

It's absurd to blame the fans/alumni. College football is a business. They charge admission. If it was a volunteer event for charity each week, then yes blame the fans.

But clearly the product doesn't have the value for far too many potential customers. That's it. Make the product more attractive, and you'll see more people.

Win AND be exciting

AND a fan experience. Bells and whistles, we need more bells and whistles. The Express sound is a nice start.

They even have clowns at the games for the kids...they wear the striped shirts and are on the field.

No. You don't have to win those teams when you're still learning to walk as a program and crawl as a team.

Get pissed we lost to Pitt. Shrug that we lost to fla st, no matter how big.

If thats the standard then the bottom line is CNYers are entitled, primadonas with an incredibly high floor and misguided views of how the school should perform.

It's sad, they're not bills.

They need to thank the alumni four tv ratings thus keeping them nationally relevant, and do their part and show up.

It's 6, fluckin 6, afternoons of top level college football for cryin out loud.

do you think all the florida fans who go to games live in gainesville?

think any of their fans make the trip from, say, oh i don't know, four hours away?

Funny but I would bet most CNYers would use these exact words to describe SU.

afternoons of top level college football for cryin out loud.
You're joking,right?

I do. They don't get to reference Kenneth Shaw forever. The success of this program rests in their hands.

They haven't earned the right to complain if they are not willing to drop a few dollars into this program's coffers. Sorry.

I totally disagree, the fate of the program rest in the hands of the administration. THEIR lack of support shows in the lack of funding and sub par facilities. This is far far worse that 21K fans in the stands.

Regardless of who's to blame, this stuff doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy...

Syracuse Football @syrfootball
People are actually leaving the Carrier Dome. ... it's 17-16 with 8:09 left.

Corey Cooper @_cjCooper1
@syrfootball why are they leaving?

Aj Long @FoeBoy_Cuse4

it's too boring

they're not leaving because Syracuse can't win down a point

they're leaving because it sucks to sit through these games

These games are also brutally long. Hoops games are 2 hours with lots of scoring. College football is 4 and with us not so much scoring.

Florida graduates scores of more kids a year than SU, whose parents went to Florida, etc, etc...to make that comparison is batty.

Who referenced Shaw? The success of this program lies with SU, not the fans. You have it backwards.

The days of local blackouts (save for the NFL and even that is in jeopardy long term) are long over.

It's just so much more helpful for the program to complain and leave early. It's an A.D.D world and full of dumbass soundbites and that is all the time people have to spend on thinking or watching a game. It reminds me of somebody buying something at Walmart and then complaining the jobs are leaving the US.

There were people leaving with a 1:30 to go when SU had the ball on the last drive. It doesn't matter the score or how close the game is, some people have it set there leaving at X time for whatever reason.

Actually they are free to do whatever they like. They have no say in the program and never did.Remember just before he told everyone to get a life,he told them this is our school not yours. This is our football program, our basketball program not yours and we'll do what we want. No one is obligated to attend THEIR games.NO ONE HERE OWES SU A DAMNED THING.

They haven't earned the right to complain if they are not willing to drop a few dollars into this program's coffers. Sorry.

Earned the right, lol.Um no one's complaining. They don't care and haven't for years. They thought they had the right when they WERE dropping alot of dollars into it.SU sure set them straight on that one. These issues are a direct result of SU's attitude towards their fans since forever. They have been given exactly what they always said they wanted.

You need to master the quote feature boss, can't tell what is your response and what your responding to.

LOL it was weird, I quoted his post twice but the system wouldnt put the message in.

A good carpenter never blames his tools! Damn computer errors! I always screw up the quote thing and look at it later and say..."what the heck was I saying?"
