The more I hear, the more concern I have that some form of cover up occurred at some point.

Gosh, I hope that that didn't happen.

But with each new story I become more and more worried.

What an awful situation.

What else has come out to make you think cover up? I'm not getting that at all.

What exactly is causing these feelings? The last thing we've heard is that SU didn't have the tape. That's a good thing and points the opposite way of a cover up.

I feel the opposite. Would be shocked to hear of a coverup, especially regarding JB.

Yeah, at worst there were signs that in retrospect existed but didn't raise any alarms at the time. Having been in that situation in my career, I'd be really disappointed if that was a firable offense (not a matter of willfully ignoring signs, things that seem basically normal can turn into something else entirely when more information comes to light).

Every time a new story comes out that is not good, it can create a new level of emotion, anxiety, and fear among folks (it's human nature). However, that does not necessarily mean that that fear is or will become true. Think rationally, and let's hope for the best.

I know I'm not alone, but my emotions are on a freaking roller coaster. I go from being chill and calm to spazzing internally in the span of a few minutes.

Just when I thought I couldn't disagree with you any more on the football board, you go and write this on the hoops side.

Seriously, there hasn't been one single instance where it looks as though ANYONE or ANY DEPARTMENT at SU covered up ANYTHING of ANY SORT.

All we know for sure is there's someone on the SU basketball staff who MIGHT have molested one or more boys - And though it looks more likely to be true than at this time last week, even that hasn't been proven factual... EDIT: Yet.

right! i'm going to have a heart attack at some point here, though now i am resorting to calm and drinking copious amounts of beer to help

I read a couple of comments on the Penn State board and they commented that ESPN had the tapes for 8 years and did nothing because they had no legal responsibility but Joe did. They were hoping there would be a media firestorm from other media outlets, and i agree they need to pay for not doing the moral right thing they accused joe of. Not standing up for joe i feel he was wrong but ESPN is more wrong because they had a tape.

Agree 100%, Orange Pa. I think we are just scratchinng the surface here... JB is on thin ice as well here as well. People are having a very difficult time separating being a basketball fan and supporting JB versus the people trying to run a national university and what will influence their decisions when it comes to matters such as this. We are 10 days into this and things are just getting stareted, going to get much worse before it starts getting better, IMO

Can't say I agree, did you hear JB's apology statement? I think the university will weather this and the only thing that'll be proven is BF allegations. Cantor's latest statement seemed to be supportive of JB.

I don't know that I can articulate it.

I guess I wonder how the SU investigatation not know about the tape.

Or did not know that this other kid was invited by Fine to an away game - if that's true.

None of us knows anything, but I don't like the direction this is going. Just a gut feeling

Well, I understand how you feel. I hope there is nothing there - I hope Bernie Fine did nothing wrong. I hope this series of allegations is proved to be a giant falsehood.

I did not say that a cover up was engineered. I didn't state that a particular entity - the school, the police department, the DA's office covered up. I said that with each new story, I become more concerned about the possibility that that occurred in some manner.

We now have three alleged victims, a woman who claims to have made a report to the DA's Office years ago, a tape made in the fall of 2002 in which the wife of the accused seems to confirm the allegations - a local police department that refuses to disclose its 2003 report to the local DA.

I know nothing about your legal acumen, but the more I hear the more I worry. Sorry.

Oh, and just so you don't get the wrong idea, I rarely agree with your football observations. Sorry again.

If Davis did not show them the tape, how are they supposed to know about it? Mind readers?

Do you ever have a good "gut feeling?" Just askin

The tape did not even exist when SPD did their investigation. It was taped after davies was rejected by SPD because of SOL. It is also documented that the outside law firm that did the SU investigation in 2005 did not have it either. I don't think the tape will contribute to any conspiracy theory.

Oh, thanks, that would explain it then..

I don't envy the scope of this investigation: everyone associated with the program for 30+ years, from JB down, will have to say what they saw and when -- stray boys hanging around coaches offices in Manley, on bus trips, in hotel rooms, etc -- and what if anything they did about it: did anyone raise a red flag or ask a question? Players, past assistants, team managers, beat reporters, office staff around the Manley complex -- what did you see? I realize some of these people have come out in public in the last week but everything has changed as of tonight. Things that may have been reported, even informally, will go to the heart of the internal investigation by Paul Weiss regarding the University's internal controls. At worst, if there are some reports or recollections consistent with the allegation, this will lead to another firestorm against a local, institutional "culture" that tolerated it. At the top of that pyramid is JB. He is Cuse basketball. I pray this is not the case.
