…than the final score indicated. I look forward to seeing where this team is in March. These guys play hard and Red has them playing good defense. If we can establish an identity on offense, look out.

Has our stock fallen this much? We lose by more than 15 and we talk about how it was closer than the actual score?

We have little margin for error, we need to make free throws and finish better, then this game wouldn't have gotten out of hand, once it got to 7-9 it was tough to come back, we had a short stretch where we cut it to 3 but then missed more free throws and missed some makeable shots around the basket on drives or fouls. We have no inside game, so we need to finish better and we have a better shot to win these kind of games.

We will struggle against physical, tough teams because we don't have an inside presence, don't rebound offensively well and struggle to finish drives to the basket. We are limited offensively so yes we have fallen quite a bit and is the reason we have struggled to make the tournament as of late.

First, the game was closer than the final score, although it never felt like SU would pull it out.

Second, yes SU’s has fallen that far. And you know it. Someone stayed around too long, but hey he got to coach his kids.

Based on the posts on this board there is no need to watch the rest of this season. As I am being told, not by you necessarily, the coach, the players, the offense and the defense are all horrible and will never improve.

I can always come back in July when everyone can tell me how great the team will be with those sparkly new recruits.

I choose to watch the coach and the team grow.

Well, we’ve been a .500 team for a few years and often overmatched talent-wise. We have a new coach, likely worse than the HoF coach he’s replacing (which, importantly!, doesn’t mean he won’t get better) and we played a top 10 team early in the season.

I guess whether our stock has fallen a lot depends on what the benchmark is. Relative to decade ago? Yeah, a lot. Relative to last season? A little, maybe not at all.

Don’t mind dasher. They’re being a troll based on what I posted in another thread. Man, when I was away from the board for much of the last two years I really didn’t miss some of these “personalities.”

Give me a break. Tennessee was a huge favorite in this game and it was a 4 or 5 point game with 4 minutes left. The last 4 minutes sucked..no doubt, but they gave a decent account of themselves sans the garbage ending. Cut the stock fallen baloney. We’ve been bad for the last 2 years.

Absolutely true. Lots of room for improvement, particularly on the offensive end, but they certainly showed they belonged on the court with that team, and should be able to build upon this performance, even if we don't see that result in a win tomorrow.

Big difference in the game if the 2 small bumps by Judah are only called 1 time. We were down like 7-1 in fouls pretty fast in the 2nd half against a team that even Bilas was commenting on how they were being able to play so physical/

Our guards no showed and we were competitive. Not awful. We need to be much more aggressive on fifty fifty balls. We are talent deficient.
Also the big guy needs to play. We need the rim protector.

Totally agree. And I don’t always agree with ya. I am very bitter with the outcome today. We were outhustled. Our rebounded. Our FT shooting. No comment.

SU controlled the game for about 5-7 minutes. UT controlled it for the remainder.

UT was seemingly always comfortably ahead by 5 with possession, and 7 without.

The final score is what it is.

We need some scorers, rebounders, and people that can hit FTs.

This.^^^

Lots of work needed.

How can you not always agree with me?

After watching Purdue and Gonzaga, we’re not beating either of these teams. They are quicker and monumentally better than us offensively. Purdue is better when Edey is not in the game.

I was quite encouraged. The missed layups and terrible shooting by Mintz and starling cost us the game.
Agree, they have to start making some of these instead of just being happy just going to the line...

Purdue really played well in the second half. They are a lot more athletic than last year. Gonzaga is mostly a finesse team, which should be a better matchup for us. It will be interesting to see which of the two teams show up after tough losses.

I was encouraged by the defense. It was more credible and had more energy than we have seen in the previous games. The offense was exactly what it has been: a non existent scheme, guys trying to make unassisted and-1 mix tape moves or flat footed and contested jumpers. That is the JB 2017+ offense. More than anything I was hoping our coaching change would result in better recruiting and at least a high school level offense. Recruiting? Check. The offense? Still early but indications not positive so far.

yes...this is where we are now

even though the score was "close" it was clear they were going to lose for most of the 2nd half, imo

im kinda surprised they didnt cover...but not really that surprised

Amen. Great effort today against a superior opponent by a team and a staff still trying to figure things out. Today's loss qualifies as progress for a program rising from the ashes of recent irrelevance.
Thank you for this sensible post amongst the rest of the garbage.
