This game was gross all around, but...

My only beef is not running Smith enough, he was a major ingredient that turned the tide last year leading to our 6-1 run in the last 7 games. Once we started giving him 20-25 touches, we started winning.

SU football is smash mouth, not this! As KCSU says, we look lost out there.

I like Gulley but they zigged when they should have zagged there and had Smith in...that killed the momentum.

Don't want to respond and be nasty, but our expectations were different. Simple as that.

It will get better, it's been 2 games against quality competition.

So far so bad, but already questioning Shafer's hire? I can only LOL.

Rocco - Its not the loss.

It's the Robinson-like quality of the loss.

Too many easy scores by the opponent and an offense that seems almost over-matched.

I have to say it - I'm ticked off.

We never looked like we did yesterday under Marrone and we appear to have some talent.

I hope there is immediate growth and I hope changes are made.

I think some people are glorifying the past here a bit, we had our moments with Marrone as well.

Difference is that Robinsons teams never got better - year in, year out. This team has a chance to meet its goals still. 1 game we were in with 2 min left, the other - they looked like the class of the the B1G.

I'm going to wait at least this season until I tar this team with Grob.

As recently as the first several weeks of last year.

Not like yesterday.
We can search for the posts of people saying nassib won't get drafted, Hackett should not be an OC, marrone sucks, etc. it's like a carbon copy. We need to give it time. We opened with 2 very good teams, that some of us including me, talked ourselves into 1 or 2 wins.

Also, let's not forget Marrone canned his OC after the first year.

After every single loss there's always blame the head coach guy - Puntin' Dougie sucks!!! HIRE LEACH

Or blame the OC guy - Freakin' Hackett, only reason he has a job is becuz his old man!!!

Or blame the QB guy - Nice one Nassib!!! GOD can't wait for Zach Allen to get here.

They got smoked, but it wasn't Robinson like.

Last years USC game was 42-29. They gave up 6 passing TD's. It wasn't the end of the world. Shafer's defense is very vulnerable to big plays in the pass game, always has been.

Like Mac and P used to say, when you blitz, one of the two band is going to be playing.

What I don't understand is why they were in base 4-3 personnel when it was obvious that NWestern had flipped the script and was going to go pass heavy early.

Exactly...heck that Minny game was like we were knee deep in mud the whole night.
Exactly. If you are a masochist go back and read some posts after that game.

I think that's a bit of an overstatement. If Robinson's team played the same NW team yesterday, we would've lost 70-7. And I don't think that's an exaggeration.

I am pissed off too, but I also didn't realistically and truthfully think we were going to beat NW (ask my wife). It's easy to be a rah-rah behind the keyboard, but I had a pretty bad feeling about yesterday. Shafer always gets torn up by dual threat QB's and they didn't make the adjustments necessary to contain that.

On top of that, the communications issue has me at a complete loss of words. Not really sure What is going on there.

We need to see a great football game played next Saturday for the overall morale and attitude of the players and staff moving forward.

They are capable of playing better, but they need to get over these bad hiccups.

Way worse than USC

I may have missed it but I did not see anyone questioning Shafs hire. IMHO he will prove to be a great hire. They took a shot with Allen and it just did nit work. I completely understand why they did it but they need to play Hunt now and build for the future.

Hunt looks comfortable out there which cannot be said of Allen.
Shafe needs to take command here.

There's a whole different thread about it. It's an joke.

Why search for old posts, when you'll be able to read the same things on all the Bills message boards about 4:30 PM today.

GoSU96, post: 738918, member: 114"]As brilliant as always I see. Robinson teams topped 435 four times, UB twice, Northeastern, and the where did this come from game against Lville, that's it.

Just stop it. You have a new OC and new QB thrown in the deep end and they are struggling, we get it. But it's not close to the mess that was Robinson football. Once they adjusted to a limited set of plays it was much different from the middle of the
2nd quarter onwards."

The problem is the offensive adjustments you mention could and should have been made a week ago today, not after 2 quarters of ugliness vs a team that can put up points in a hurry. We had an offensive system that the players knew and that was working. The new OC decided to abandon it despite assurances to the contrary. His goal was to make a name for himself instead of copying a successful predecessor. Shafer should have said look we need you to replicate the Hackett offense. Once that is working you can add to it as you see fit. Instead we did this in reverse and it cost us a W vs Penn state which was a very winnable game and may have cost the team it's sense of confidence vs NW.

Also where are the touches for smith our best player? Did he ever run for less than 4 yards when he got the ball last night? more of the following please : estime, broyld, Morris iii, and funder. And finally the obvious oral contract with Allen the mistakes he makes will take a season to correct and it's clear he was not well coached (low priority I assume) before he got here. Hunt wants to make plays, he is poised and confident, he's not in there whining, and the flow is just obviously better - flow counts for a whole lot in life and in sports. Allen has zero shot at the nfl, we have a 3 year starter who the players love ready to go. End of experiment please.[/quote]

I believe that is absolutely true. The team will improve. I still believe we win enough to get to a bowl game. There is a lot of talent on the field for SU. We just haven't been able to put the pieces together. And yes, we played two good teams.

I have always believed that the coaches know far more than I do, and they see the players every day, all of their attributes and flaws, in all situations. So I respect their decisions. Just the same, after a couple of performances this season, I have some questions, and I am anxious to see how the coaches address those issues.
