What do you want? If you expect man defense, go find another team. It’s not happening. Both teams shoot very well from 3, stop blaming the zone for it.

Trust me I know, there’s no doubt about it he’ll never leave the zone, that’s what he is known for but tell me what’s your explanation for all this? Wide-open shots constantly or just simply pass it to the foul line and then defender comes up, pass to the big man, easy bucket every time. it gets tiresome.

Couldn’t of said it better myself! Took the words right out of my mouth. We’re Are an elite or maybe a step below, we are a solid to elite program with very athletic kids here year in and year out, we don’t need to play a gimmick defense! you get in their face and make it hard on them as much as possible!! that’s what you do and that’s why Virginia for example is so successful!

Rebounding in the 2nd half killed us. We got stops, but couldn’t get the ball off the first miss.

It’s not a stop if you can’t get the ball and change possession. Defense doesn’t end when a shot goes up.

People complain about how unathletic BB and JGIII are at the top of the zone, but it’s almost like they completely forget that argument when they start calling for man. There have been other SU teams that I would have liked to see play some man, I’ve seen enough of this team to know that I don’t want to see man from the group that is most often on the floor.

I think they did ok today with a combined 43 points and 12 made three pointers.

We don't have a true starting center or a center with toughness coming off the bench. Can't expect freshman centers ever to step in and be the first option, nor a defensive toughness option.

Most losses this year can be chalked up to that alone. All the Kids played their hearts out today.

We went on a nice run with some defensive stops with Howard, and Guerrier in the first half, despite guerrier not recovering he certainly contested shots. So I didn't mind the call of Q over Sidibe down the stretch. Sadly it backfired as ND scored their last 10 possessions. Simple math. ND took 5 more fg attempts and took 2 more ft's then us because of 5 more rebounds and 2 less turnovers. We shot 5% better than them, but that was the difference.

We needed only one defensive rebound from Sidibe today to win. He gave us 6 offensive.

Exactly. We have great shooters. But we don’t have the length and athleticism we usually have up top at the guards spots and along the back line of the zone. That’s killing the defense.

He’s talking about the gamble on a steal (that he had no chance at) that left Hubb open for that 3 (I believe that tied the game). Don’t get me wrong, he had a great game. But that was a big defensive error.

Yes it is. However, a valid argument can be made that at no time ever should a roster of a P5 level team be incapable of playing any m2m. If any team at that level truly isn’t capable, then it’s clearly a 100% reflection on its coach and his failure to assemble adequate talent at said level.

he's a 3 point specialist who's slow afoot. dad's program is the perfect fit for him these days to play all game.

It seems like this year we’re gonna have to score 90 points to win a game! There best player or Idk if he’s the best player because we always let an unknown players score 30 points but he’s having a great game and he’s got all the space to work like 5 feet from anybody being on the guy, I don’t know how much more I can stomach this zone!!! It doesn’t work anymore. Teams have had like 20 years of footage of how to beat the zone and people get so comfortable with it because were playing it all game long to the point where it just becomes routine and that’s exactly what Notre Dame did, throw to the foul line, defender comes up and throw to the big guy, easy basket or pitch it out for a wide-open 3. same thing every time.

I would argue that there is even more footage of M2M as most teams play that style of defense. So, yeah, let's go to a defense that every team practices for 95%+ of the year.

Concur. A good zone will always be a tremendous weapon for us against P5 schools that lack shooting, or at least haven't seen it much (the way we play it), it's probably less of a weapon against teams with lots of shooters, but can still be effective as we adjust and push them out, and change it up.

Against, smaller schools that usually specialize in being slow, but good at shooting, they tend to be able to use the zone against us to dictate pace...….However, we are now in this strange conundrum of not being able to play M2M, and generally being very bad at zone defense. I'm not sure where we go with that one!

Didn't they play man before coming to SU? The fact that we cant even think about switching for one possession is a problem... The question is how many red flags are enough?

We have played many mid majors over the years with guards on par with BB and JG athletically who were somehow able to play M2M against our much better athletes.

The excuse that we cannot play M2M because of player X, Y and Z has always been BS, IMO.

Could Hughes play guard at all if we tried to go for a few minutes with Bras (pre-injury), Marek, Guerrier exchanging time at the 3/4?
