Not for Stony Brook...was pathetic.I think the students have done a decent job the last 2 seasons with showing up. It's the staying past halftime thing they have trouble with.

CNYers outnumber alumni and students at least 5-to-1.
The student section behind the endzone on Saturday was completely empty.
I don't think you can just project regional demographics into a typical Dome crowd. Not really. There are roughly 35-40K alums in NY outside of the metro area, and there are upwards of 1 million people living within 90 minutes of the Dome in any direction.
Let's stop all the class warfare! And the sections on the sideline were 90%, or more, empty when they hasd that shot mid 4th. But everyone wants to call out the locals that may have left.

Seriously, like many problems, low attendance at the Dome is a product of may things and has to have many attack points. It's not just the students or the locals or the alumni. It's all of them. The rooster is having sex with all of them.
I brought my fiancee's family from Albany to the Pitt game 2 years ago and they were begging to leave early in the 4th Quarter when it was 40 something to 10 something. Their first time ever there. Maybe it's something about the Dome that makes it dreadfully boring when the game isn't exciting. That and seeing other people leave makes you want to leave as well. :noidea:
Something about the Dome???? How about SU being down by 30 in the 4th Quarter. Think that had anything to do with it? Seriously?
Ok, so? Not everyone in CNY is a football fan or a sports fan at all and the numbers include kids and the elderly. Point is, SU's problems aren't just the locals. It's the students and the alumni including the inmability to get alumni to donate to the program in the numbwers and $$$ that others might.
Sure. It's been been like that for a while. There are plenty of excuses...none good. Most of them just want to avoid traffic. Also, from personal experiences in the last decade...nothing worse than my 3 hour drive home after staying till the end only to have them blow another one. I still stay...but it's been painful and you can't underestimate that experience when wondering why people leave early. That was an extreme example but to illustrate it's not just our normal Syracuse curmudgeon crowd that leaves early. I've also seen regulars leave down a TD or two or up a TD. I think once people start seeing other people leave they start subconsciously asking why are they still there as well.
You are thinking that proximity = connection but it doesn't always come out that way. Let's say I am from Oswego. I go away to college to BC or WVU. You think I will remain a diehard SU fan? If SU was a state school, it would be more likely to have fans just based on the fact that they live in the same state (like in most other states). SU is private and the loyalty based on location is just not as strong. While getting all alumni in the tri-state area won't fill Beaver stadium, they will fill the dome. And isn't that what we are discussing?Yeah, I've never argued with you about that.
All I'll say is that if you forced at gunpoint every student on campus and every alum within NY, NJ and CT go to every home game, we still couldn't fill Beaver Stadium.
We need all 3 groups to attend better if we want to fill the place, but the biggest base is in CNY. I'm not being critical, just stating math. That's all.

I've said it was all 3 a number of times. But all you read about on this board is about the curmundgeon locals. But I'll tell you what, there is zero doubt in my mind that there are more reasons for the locals not to show than there are for the students or alumni support.
One last point. My expectation is not for alumni to go to every game. It's more the alumni that go to none and haven't for years. Especially those 4-5 hours away. And also the football alum and their non involvement with the program over many years.
People who live in CNY and have no connection to the University via education or employment don't care what's happening on the hill. Same thing in a lot of private school communities. Look at last week's UMiami game attendance.

I still say they should lock the doors after kickoff and you don't leave unless it's an emergency situation.
Keep harping on this. CNYers simply need to roll out of bed. They are at the Dome. Students, same thing. Alums, most of them, live hours away from the location of the game. Absurd. And I'm still waiting for your "list".
I sit in section 129 row B seat 101 and happen to be 66 and I stand a lot during games, no-one has told me to sit down. Just because people are older don't lump all older people that way.Are you refering to the demographic that constantly yells at you to sit down at games as if you were at a tennis match?![]()

Never said every alum has to go to every game as you make it sound. But there is no doubt there is little non-local alumni investment either with money or attendance.

The student showing is atrocious. Downright embarrassing. While people pile on the casual fan out in Cicero who doesn't go what's the student body's excuse for not going?
The students have not been the issue this year at all.
