Ticket/Attendance Madness

You're smarter than that to know Buzz's comment only impacted some and not all. We went from 45k to 25k.

And yes, the alumni support at the Dome sucks. So does the local and student support. But it seems like the alumni want to place full blame on the locals and that is a crock. SU may not have as many alumni as other big state schools, but they obviously have some alumni with deep pockets as they just raised $1B for the school. So tell me why nothing can be raised toward the football facility and it fell far short on the Manley upgrade?

We aren't ND in number of alumni nor prestige as a football program. But that place is crammed with alumni that come from all over. Must be some think ND has this huge following because the run down cities of South Bend/Terre Haut show up in droves.

Being asked might help. Or being made aware at least.

Just went to an alumni event in DC. That topic never came up. I asked one of the coaches after and that coach had no clue.

And ND is 90 minutes or whatever from Chicago, pretty easy to leave as soon as possible...South Bend makes Syracuse look like Paris.

Sure. Difference being NYC is right there and there's a tad more do to.

Frankly I hate the Meadowlands and think the whole experience there boarders on a FedEx Field level of needless aggrevation. If SU wants to play in NY they should pick the baseball stadiums if able where capacity and access is more reasonable.

I agree 100% it does seem like a lot of needless aggravation. Only point I want to make while NYC surely offeres a million more things to do then Syracuse the difference in cost is astronomical. Its much more reasonable to come up for a game at the dome and stay a night/two then the cost of going down for 2 nights in NYC/NJ and paying $95 for a decent ticket. I certainly enjoyed my trip this year to see the USC game but it wasnt exactly cheap and I could see how a lot of people probably couldnt have afforded it.

as far as the bus goes, i got to blame the school for this, but then take some credit despite none being given. i tried for a few years in the early 00's, including on here, to get a bus to go games or to get an offical NYC Alumni Club. offered to run it, got contacts up at school, called, emailed...always fell on deaf ears.

Believe it or not, I remembered that and is why I said what I said. I think it was you and someone else doing it but it was too long ago.

But nothing I post abourt alums or students has anything to do with those on this site. The alums here are the ones that go to the games if they can, or buy seasons and give them away, or donate $$$. Just like the posts killing the locals, I may take issue with them, but I don't take it personal because I know how much time and $$$ I invest in the program and have for 5 decades. But sdome of the stuff is idiocy and yes, the school is to blame for a lot of it as they are for some of the alum support also.

Agreed. And not to sound uppity but outside of staying at The Sheraton the idea of Carrier Circle or wherever (no offense, I am sure they are nice) isn't that appealing. Love waking up and walking down to M Street, part of the pull to go back.

well maybe the football alumni would be around more if they didnt fire an extremely popular coach after winning the BE and going to a bowl game in the year he was about to be president of the college coaches association or whatever.

as an alumni who makes it to 1 game every few years, i dont see what else you could expect. non-local alumni are going to pick and choose games just like the cny yokels, except we are more likely to attend an away game closer to our homes and get our Syracuse fix that way. wasting a home game on labor day weekend is not going to get alumni, neither will more come for those fridays...those should be plum local games.

when you are in a 1 horse town and dont have a life in cny, it shouldnt be too hard to clear the schedule for at least 5 games a year.
Wow. This is what they are up against with alums? It's an uphill battle for sure.

A couple of notes. What is WIN? SU basketball was winning and the students srtill weren't showing up and had their seats moved. Unless you are saying we have to be top 5 like the past couple years. ...

That's true.

The basketball attendance thing is way overstated. Why do SU students come to basketball games in big numbers? Because we win they have an opportunity to make a clever sign and get on national television.

Students are no different than others. There's a diehard core who are always there. And there's a much larger group that shows up for selected big event games (yes, when the team is winning). For the great majority of basketball season, two-thirds of 104 and 103 is filled for the first half and there is an enormous void in the third deck where the overflow seating is.

Being asked might help.

OK, I am asking. Please send me $100K and I will make sure it gets in the right hands.

Just curious as to what people consider to be "good" student attendance? 10% of all undergrads? 20% 30% I don't think it is realistic to expect more than 20-25% tops, which translates to 2800 to 3500 in a best case scenario at SU. Now at Ohio State or Texas 25% is 12,000+ students, but or undergraduate population is significantly smaller and culturally more "urban" and diverse than what is found at those schools.

So what kind of numbers are we getting? (And, yes, I'm talking about early 2nd quarter peak attendance).

I think a third would be nice. Maybe unrealistic, as you noted.

The Greek system should be involved.

Ummm. No.

Which of these things is not like the other?

Syracuse.

South Bend.

Paris.

I'll make the check out to Dr. Daryl Gross, since you cannot pass for him at a check cashing location. :)

THIS^^^ Why are we all getting torn up over who is to blame when the fact is every group is to blame.
