Today in Doug Gottleib

Is he trying to get fired and take a buyout?

Still does a 3 hour radio show every weekday, game or not. Jokebragged about not working over the holidays when his team went 0-7? Posted his Christmas Instagram photo with his family, wearing a “hope they serve tacos in hell“ T-shirt….

dbag doesn’t cover it. Just a shoddy, moronic, ugly human being. If Stephen Miller had been athletic enough to play sports in high school….
Can I like this post 10 times?

When I lived in Wisconsin, I wondered why Green Bay wasn’t a perennial contender in the Horizon League - their location and facilities had a lot of built-in advantages. Then they do something like let a new coach maintain his daily radio show, and the reason becomes clear.

A lot of the headlines about Doug have been sensationalized negativity - the “Nobody U” comment in particular got completely mischaracterized. It’s almost enough to make me feel bad for him. But then I realize two things:

1). This is the guy who thought maintaining his radio show while being a new coach was a good idea - which just shows what a selfish arrogant clown he is.
2) The overly negative articles are being written by people who know he’s a selfish arrogant clown and are taking as many shots at him now as they can while they have the chance.

If anything, keeping the radio show certainly shows that his focus is not on building a team and a program. He’s like a dad coaching his kid’s AAU teams. It’s his part-time gig, except he’s getting paid good $$$ to be more than a just a fly-by-week coach. I can’t believe the school agreed to let him split his focus. Coach K had a show on satellite, but it was once a week, and it was prerecorded IIRC.

And K had demonstrated a level of excellence first. If his program performance declined, and it could be surmised that his show contributed to a lack of focus or attention, K probably would have dropped it. But, Doug had no level to fall off from…. Was WiscGB that desperate for a ‘name’ that they had to acquiesce to Gottlieb’s terms?

In the NIL era I can understand getting conned be a coach with a media presence who lies and says they will use said presence to fund NIL/the program. Obviously anyone with a brain would expect and outcome like this but its the Horizon League there are around 300 mostly irrelevant programs in D1 hoops.

Not sure if I've posted this before, or just thought it, but anyhoo -

Every time this thread title pops up - Today in Doug Gottleib

I'm like...

  • a gerbil?
  • a hamster?
  • a Shaq bobble-head doll?
  • other?
I mean, he's such a massive A-hole, it could be almost literally anything!

Proud to say I started those shenanigans with the first reply to the original post.

I've seen some social media posts praising his decision and calling it a smart one. I think the majority of college basketball fans thought it was a bad decision to try and balance coaching a D1 team while maintaining his other job. However it took this nitwit months to figure it out.

His other option was to keep coaching part time, get fired at the end of another sub-.500 season in 25-26 and go back to his radio show full time. He effectively bought himself some additional time to turn things around at Green Bay as long as their record this year isn’t a disaster. I’m not sure it qualifies as a smart decision as much as it does a tactical one.
