Tom Coughlin FIRED by Jags

True.

He could have been a legacy coach.

But it seems that his lack of patience made that impossible.

I respect his ability and I hoped he would be our coach for many years.

If he were the coach under the Wildhack/Syverud administration, would he have wanted to stick around longer? I think he would have been happier here, but the attraction of being an NFL head coach was always there, so once that opportunity presented itself.

As much as it drives me crazy from the standpoint of my two favorite football teams being deserted, he really did end up playing his cards right from a financial perspective.

Sucks for Tom. He is an OUTSTANDING human being. The charity work he does is over the top. As a member of this SU Football community and a CNY native, can’t help but feel for Tom. He has so many opportunities to expand his philanthropic ways. I’d love for him to get a “consultant” role with Dino. Would be awesome to have his wisdom into our fold.

The GMen should’ve never fired the guy. It’s been nothing but a raging dumpster fire since he got canned.

Lastly, the Jags have probably the worst owner in all of the NFL. The guy simply doesn’t get it. Probably a blessing in disguise Tom!
Why is Khan the worst owner in the league? I have never heard anything but positive stuff regarding him.

Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones, Dean Spanos & Mark Davis. Just off the top of my head in deep competition for worst owner in the NFL (though as a Cowboys fan the one saving grace about my severe dislike of Jerry Jones is that at least he is not Dan Snyder).

Very far from it, but it does provide them a lot of opportunity. I'd rather be a wealthy jerk than a poor jerk.

There was a line in Dilbert: "Money cannot buy happiness. But it can buy a lot of stuff happy people wish they had."

Still, I recall Coach Mac's wife loved their home in Denver so much that she painted a picture of it and hung it over their coach at the next place Mac's career took him and he got the message that she wanted to settle down somewhere.

I got out my 2012 SU media guide and looked at the page on Coach Marrone. It showed a picture of him with his wife and three children. The article didn't identify the ages of the kids but they appeared to be about ages 4-7 or something close to that. Dug had a chance to raise those kids in one place until they were adults by staying here and helping us into the transition to the ACC. As a successful alumnus coach, he could have a spent the rest of his career here if he wanted to. (And I think he would have been a good enough coach make us at least a respectable ACC program and at least an occasional contender in our difficult division.)

Instead he shuffled off to Buffalo, then walked away form that job too, thinking he had the jets job in hand. he got a line coach job in Jacksonville and eventually the head job. Now he's about to lost that. I wonder what his wife and family think about having to move again.
I feel sorry for any coach who is fired because it affects his family, his staff, and their families. That said, I'm glad that he isn't at Syracuse. I'm afraid that he would be our Steve Addazio, destined to be a 500 coach forever.

agreed, I think it's pretty darn hard to place a value on peace of mind.

The conversation starts and ends with Dan Snyder.

Everyone else is battling for 2nd worst.

Yeah having Cantor and Gross as his bosses had to make it easier to bail, I know I would. However, I just think Doug is an unhappy and restless guy who needs to change jobs pretty frequently

Eh, it’s kinda like SU with Coach P. Things weren’t so good for several years before they fired them anyways. Just because they made bad hires after doesn’t mean it wasn’t time to move on.

Jacksonville did have their best season in franchise history with Coughlin and Marrone. Things can change quick in the NFL though.

if you are talking about 2017 TC had nothing to do with that. in addition they both resigned bortles instead of letting him walk and then getting the next overpaid backup in foles. they need to part ways with Marrone and Caldwell and build around Minshew, Chark/Conley, and Allen and Ngakoue

I was told that getting the Bills to a 9-7 record was a "miracle," yet here they are in the playoffs for the second time in the last 3 years while Marrone is soon to be out of a job.

Correct. Whats that old saying, "You are what your record says you are?" Doug Marrone is a %450 head coach. Simple as that and in two more weeks, he'll be looking for a job he is suited for, a coordinator.

a coordinator?

its very hard to get a job as a coordinator when youve never called plays.

you have to work for a HC who does it, and theres not many of them.

Excellent and appropriate use of “standpoint”

My mom used to say "rich or poor, it's nice to have money".

Spanos, Snyder and Jerrah are all worse.
