Tommy D

Great kid. Still has upside with weapons and a line around him. Do not see him being able to transfer to another school right now and win a big time job. His best bet is to come back get a healthy line, RBs and more experienced WRs. He could have a great year next year. We also need a backup to challenge him and be ready to play. Unacceptable to be in the position we are right now playing a TE at QB.

High School: Ranked the No. 7 quarterback in the state of Florida. … No. 43 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2016, according to 247sports.com … No. 8 player on the Tampa Bay Times HomeTeam 100 … Was 152-for-248 (.613) passing for 2,145 yards and 21 touchdowns in his career … As a junior, completed 138 out of 219 passes (.630) for 2,016 yards and 20 touchdowns, and rushed for 360 yards and six scores, to lead Plant to the 2014 Florida Class 8A regional semifinals ... Earned second-team all-county and third-team all-state honors … PrepStar All-Southeast Region selection … Did not play his senior season due to injury … Two-time team captain.

Whatever Tommy does is between him and Dino.

With more oline developement/improvement and a scheme that gives him more of a chance? He could still be a fantastic QB here. I dont think those questions are answered in the short term, but I think we ALL want to see what happens with that stuff.

This is one of those situations where you wish the player had a parent on the board so you could get the real story. But oh well.
Solid post to like ratio here, well done sir

Watch TD transfer to Rutgers. Hope not for I still have faith in this kid.

God forbid. Would not want to see him leave.

I think Sitarski and Langan at Rutgers are both JRs this year. Looks like they are still doing the rotation between those 2 this year.

we need to fix the oline stat and tommy needs to improve his reads, but ability is there. really difficult to have a new oc, a covid installation and a decimated oline. its basically impossible.
Or maybe run short quick routes, and use the TE more, like EVERY team has done in a similar situation? These long bombs/rec getting open, limited run game(minus Tucker, dayum) are so frustrating.. Adjusting is not impossible, unless you refuse to.

Tommy probably IS a great kid. And on paper, he looks like he ought to be a great quarterback. But lots of kids pass the look test and just don't pan out. And in Tommy's defense, the offensive lines he's worked with have been patchwork MAC level lines at best. It's a classic chicken and egg thing, but I think we all with this young man the best and we certainly all wish he'd turn into the next Trevor Lawrence. These past 2 years have been Gerg-level brutal as a fan of over 40 years.

The offense has been bad at times, but this isn't Gerg bad. Over the last two seasons the team has scored over 30pts 6 times, between 20 and 29 6 times, and less than 20 5 times.

With Gerg it scored over 30 7 times, between 20 and 29 8 times, and less than 20 32 times.

Another comparison is that over the last two years the team has still managed to go over 500 yds total offense twice, between 400 and 500 4 times, and between 300 and 400 another 7. There have been four really bad games of less than 300, 3 this year and against Clemson last year.

If you think that's bad, just for context, Gerg's offense never got to 500 once, 5 times over 400, 12 times between 300 and 400. They didn't make it to 300 30 times.

I'm not saying the last two years have been good, but it's not close to the disaster that was Greg Robinson.

We're like a Dave Kingman at bat - it may result in a mammoth home run, but probably a strikeout or a mammoth pop-up.
How about being consistently good instead of occasionally great?

People leave TD alone right now.
He is hurt.
His dad posts here no need to bait him as stuff said about his son rightfully has to cause a reaction to him.
If you got a comment on him beyond stuff on the field send his dad a PM and be respectful.
We don’t need to charge up his dad.

I’ve met his dad and mom several times, they sit near me. Awesome people good family.
I definitely wasn’t trying to start anything negative. If anything I still say it’s the o-line thst has hurt Tommy’s confidence and his body

TD is all Syracuse. I am amazed at how some people let their insane fandom get in the way sometimes(not directed at you Su50). Support the team the right way, not the toxic way. I am also not saying be a homer, just no need to be a @#ck.

From a guy who was calling for Nassib to be replaced as Junior(perceived TO issues) let's just say I learned alot and we are far worse off without Tommy than we are with him. I have been very critical of his play but do you really want a QB group next year with no upperclass experience? Tommy was 13/26 for 2 TDs and 0 Ints when he went down. A catch by Harris that any #1 Wr should make and it's 3 TDs. Give him a line that has more than 6 scholarship lineman and his completion percentage goes up, give him WRs who can catch and his completion percentage goes up even more. Yes he locks on early, has poor pocket presence, and a few other things. Give him capable weapons and a gameplan that involves more high percentage thrown over the middle esp to our TEs and I think Tommy's numbers would be fine.

Good luck finding anyone who can throw the football like Tommy.

We need his backup to be a high level athlete to take some hits but anyone who fits that bill and ends up here is gonna usually throw balls in the dirt 5 yards behind the WR.

2 more years of Tommy with abetter OL and D1 WRs is best case scenario.

Losing a year of Trish and then not realizing we had absolute crap at WR and we had to boot htem off scholarship and get decent players in is why we are in this situation. I honestly think they are so bad that they are Umass and Uconn level take out Harris's one big play a game (though he offsets it with drops and blown routes) and they are worse.

I think it’s probably 50/50 right now if he returns.

we are going to need to see major improvement on the OL for him to stay. He needs to know that he’s going to be protected. I mean, I wouldn’t want to play behind that OL if I was a qb either.

I think he might also want to see a big time playmaker at WR come in. Taj is...okay...but he shouldn’t be a #1 receiver and that’s a huge issue.

It’s also dependent I am sure on what other programs are looking at for qb wise and what qbs will be entering the portal.

To think that he’s not looking around at other programs to see what’s available is just simply denial of what is occurring, however, that doesn’t mean he’s going.

For a school like SU he is a once in a lifetime arm talent. The issue is that at a school like SU we are better having guys like Hunt or even Robin Anderson due to our limitations at other positions. IMO this system is also an issue. It didn't really fit Dungey nor TD. Not sure there is a QB it does ideally fit. I think what we started to show before he got hurt is better suited for him. More of a pro style, play action system. No matter what IMO he has a lot to work on in terms of reads and decision making. Hopefully the time away and observing from afar will make him reach his full potential.

No we are a ACC school and can find 3-4 acceptable receivers.

Dungey 10 win season somehow came with poor WRs and then we had a transfer who was good last year who left early and Dino stubbornly didn't realize that we were entering this season with crap and anyone off the street would be better.

Next season we'll fix this. Add someone who can bump Taj to #2 and your problem is basically solved.

Im crazy bizy this time of year with work and I’ll give you guys a little of what I can tonight
I wanna leave you guys with this until then
In your opinion and some factual answer the following
Out of 130 teams where do we rank
In 2019 and so far in the dreaded 2020

O Line
WR
TE
RB
Penalties
OC
do you like our offense

Have we ever had a string pass blocking OL here? Even in our heyday? Have we ever had 3-4 WRs?

IMO the OL has been better this year compared to pre Duke game last year. That being said IMO we are in the 75-90 range of FBS for OL.

WR think we are in the 60-75 range.

TE think we are in the 30-45 range.

RB 45-60 range. If you add back the opt out kids 30-45 range.

So IMO our O talent when healthy and opted in we should be in that 60-75 range.

Penalties are a mess and easily in the 90-120 range.

OC I think is in the 30-45 range.

I do not like our O system. It seems too easy to defend which is why we cannot sustain drives. We can get points with the big plays, but that will never offer consistency. Is using 4 big plays a game to score 30 points really worth it if you are going 3 and out all the other times? Which in turn puts a strain on your D and makes them more likely to give up 30 points?

I hope you were trying to prove my point. I don't see 3-4 WRs producing there. Our pass blocking was not good. They were good running OLs that were bailed out by mobile QBs in pass protection.

I must've seen different games than you. But I agree on the OL. All have mobile QBs. Getting smoked by DEs knows no era.

The catches in 2018 are pretty staggering. That 1992 was as good as anyone in that era, adding Gedney, into that mix.
