Class of 2016 Transfer Thread

The number of guys who end up playing at 3 schools continues to grow. (Despite Orangehulk's strenuous objections.)

Would love for Tyler Cavanaugh to transfer home to Syracuse. He was really good with GW this year at around 17 and 8. Shoots about 40% from 3. Would be cool to have 2 6-9 Tyler's that can shoot. I believe he may have graduated, since he's played 3 years and sat 1.

yeah, I mean if he's legit healthy and can be counted on for solid minutes as needed, we know he can shoot...

If Malachi leaves, SU needs a versatile guard who can play 10-15 minutes a game.

Albrecht would be okay as a fourth guard, but he doesn't help much otherwise.

agree, definitely not talking about him as a feasible replacement for Mal

Que Johnson from Wazzu would be a perfect Mal replacement, if needed, and just a great get altogether. 6'5", shot 40% from 3, can really score the ball. Michigan kid who may want to play closer to home than the west coast. Not sure who's intersted, but it doesn't make sense to go after an Albrect, who will provide very little, over a kid like Que.

I'll pass if he's basically damaged goods health wise.
Can't believe this ... I cursed that kid 100 x when we played Michigan. It's like getting scored on by the chess club champion .. a kids who's not athletic but goes unconscious from 25 feet every time he plays us. Not only would he be small at the top of the zone, I question if he could defend after having double hip surgery. IMO, Mullins is a much better fit if available ( best of luck to Spike thuogh).

It feels like the Mullins ship is about to sail by, unfortunately.

Really strange to not hear our name mentioned with anyone other than Dembele (and Taurean Thompson, I guess) at this point. Would have thought we'd be involved with a few more kids, given we have 3 to give. Awful late to have 3 left, especially for a team that is already -2 to begin with on the scholarship front.
Why has the Mullins ship sailed? Because he wants to visit the three schools who offered him? Can't blame him for that. Michigan is completely on the down. They have done nothing the past two years. Couple players transferred. Cal is Cal. The Dome is the Dome. The Melo Center is the Melo Center. Final fours are final fours. This kid could come in and get legit minutes for a top tier program. Opportunities like that are hard to pass up on. Michigan worries me but they have been on the down. We should be able to get Mullins

I must add I cannot believe we are not going for more grad transfers. If richardson leaves, we are so beyond screwed if we don't get another guy. We should be offering multiple competent 5th year players

In addition to a graduate transfer why have we not been looking to a regular transfer? There are not going to be a ton of minutes if we sign either Dembele/Thompson and a graduate transfer so why wouldn't we explore that avenue (if you can find a good fit of course, kid from 'Zona, or Goodluck would have been ideal but he's going pro)?

I firmly believe kids like Wes, MG, and our 7'3 center are out there every year. These are the players you need to sprinkle around your 1/2 and done's for leadership, maturity and stability. These kids will have been in the system 2 years practicing against elite talent and have the zone down pat (which is huge). I would bring in one of these kids almost every year when possible, and it seems to me that this would be a perfect year to do that, even if Maili leaves.

I would guess mainly because we the 2017 class is very deep with talent and we look to be in very good shape with quite a few of them. Add to that the ship restriction plus (if Mal is back) having a team that has most of the pieces in place to make a deep run and it makes more sense to fill out the roster with experienced grad students who add depth, can contribute right away and only tie up a ship for next season.

It would likely have to be a legit sure fire regular transfer IMO .

This. Having 8 players with 11 ship max is a prime opportunity for a traditional transfer. Only downside is adding a middle-tier prospect who will eat up a scholarship at the expense of a higher-upside recruit down the line. But I'd like to see 1.

Number of 2017 commits: Zero.

Seriously, after the 2016-17 season, Syracuse could legitimately have just three scholarships committed to players in 2017-18 (Howard, Chukwu, and Moyer). There is plenty of opportunity. They should be looking at a class of 5-7 kids (I assume Diagne will be one), which still leaves room 1-2 traditional scholarship players. I'm surprised that Syracuse isn't like Indiana at this point for 2017 (you have a pulse and can dribble? Offered!).

You freaking brought up the 2017 class and why they're impeding landing a transfer! :bang:

Yes and although we have no commits we have offers to all the pieces we need, multiple offers although not on an IU Uconn level. Perhaps I misinterpreted your post as representing being very concerned. If so I apologize.

Well, we are looking at having Howard, Chukwu, Moyer and...? going into 2017/18. Maybe Battle sticks around. There are likely going to be up to EIGHT open scholarships. I would much rather add a transfer now that would be ready to contribute in 17-18 instead of relying on so many freshmen. It would also alleviate some of the pressure on the staff to reel in a monster class, at least ever so slightly.

But I think it's too late as the better transfers are already making their moves...
