Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

If the school is Miami why can’t Fran block it since we play them next year? Plus , they blocked Gus Edwards so all is fair . If i’m Fran i’m not letting Miami tamper and the. have to play against him next year. Go somewhere else.
I think that rule went out the window with the new portal rules. Might be wrong on that but I don't see guys getting blocked.

Transfer portal is different than the old traditional transfer

I get not being held hostage.

But we also know that in business people get offers all the time and companies choose to match them to retain key talent.

If they doubled our deal and we’re tapped out then I understand. But I don’t want to see us standing on principle over reasonable increases that we can match.

Thing is, if you choose to match, that's not a tactic to retain a single player. That's a strategy for all the players who try it. And once it's known you'll do it, you invite more to try.

We've got money, but not like the SEC schools. Ultimately it's just not a strategy we can afford.

Why? He apparently got a huge NIL deal and turned down numerous offers and then decides to leave after Spring practice after being named captain by Fran. He seems the camaraderie of the guy who left last year sticking around to work out in SU. Now he knows he’ll never be part of that but the only reason he’s leaving is because he went from a lot of money to a lot more money? I’m not buying it no matter what anyone says. I’m sure 2 things could be true. He knew he was taking a step back even if Collins is decent and he’s getting more money, but the spring move tells me he wasn’t thrilled with what he saw during camp. None of us have seen Rickie perform n a regular basis except Treb, so where is the blind confidence coming from? People act like Syracuse turns out good quarterbacks on an annual basis. McCord made a lot of bad memories go away.

Rickie is the real deal and even at the Z Trebor was going to be WR1 by some margin. He was going to get a ton of yards pretty much no matter what.

*If* it has something to do with Rickie (and I really don't think it does) then we'd probably need to get into the scheme being around a dual threat or something like that. Then we also need to talk about Willis' development, etc. Compared to being team captain, having the legacy and the NIL in place, the fan support, etc., that just seems like a huge stretch TBH.

That is my understanding also.

Old rules

Next man up. He got more NIL after last year. He could have left then. Someone else came around with a much bigger bag now. Is what it is. If guys want to chase the biggest bag, they will always leave.

It’s a loss but we have a lot of depth at WR.

It’s not always about money.

This is the fourth starter to leave. Barnes, Bellamy and Wohlabaugh all would be starters. Before you recruit the world you need to re-recruit your roster.

I’m hearing there could be more hitting the portal within the next few days that could be surprising or disappointing. Some will not be of their own volition.

Buckle up

the block rule is obsolete and moot now I believe, I'm not sure if the NCAA legislated it or a court of law.

We really didn't recruit the world this year.

One thing I worry a bit about is Fran reading his press clippings. He might see the world a bit different after this coming season.

Best of luck to him. I'm sure he wants to polish his stats with a sure winning team before trying for the NFL. We still don't know how good SU will be with a new QB and a tough schedule.

What if we take Trebors NIL pour it towards Nico iamaleva, and that puts us over the top to get him.

Hey this would be a pretty awesome silver lining

Didn’t Clarence Lewis exhaust his eligibility or are you thinking of someone else? J’Onre Reed?

If a guy is voluntarily leaving this time of year it’s either for money or playing time / position issue 99 times out of 100.

Barnes I agree was not a money thing.

Pena is a money thing. The amount of tampering that goes on in spring ball is massive. But it goes both ways so I’m not begrudging that. You have to be constantly keeping tabs on your guys. But you can’t keep everyone happy on a team of 100+.

We’ve now lost all of our top receivers from last year. People keep saying we’re deep at wide receiver. None of them have proved anything. The first two throws to Russell on Saturday were 50/50 balls and he didn’t come down with either of them. Our tight ends have not proved they can catch the ball on a consistent basis. To be honest, no one stood out on Saturday. Hornsby caught a couple, but no one else stood out. Collins is not McCord either. This team might really struggle to score points. They didn’t go up and down the field on Saturday either.
They lost experience. There was going to be a step back from last year regardless but I still think the Wr room is good. The run game has to step up. That's the key to reducing the load off Rickie and the entire offense.
