Triche must be hurt

I don't think anyone said taking him out was a "mistake". The question was why did he get taken out. We were going to win with him in or out. I think a couple other people hit the nail on the head.

Love how you insinuate that it's to keep everyone happy. False.

Your lovefest with Triche has been well documented, but Scoop and Dion were really good last night. Can't it just be that?

Outside of the three-point barrage, Triche didn't do much IMO.

LOL, right, outside of completely taking over the game when the outcome was still very much in doubt youre right, he didnt do much.

he cooled off? the only shot he took after the three 3's was the coast to coast layup. he never saw the ball again in a position to shoot after making 3 in a row.
you don't exactly stay hot by not shooting for 5 minutes?

stupid pass and he was tired

Can somebody please tell me why MCW played so well in the first half and then didnt play in the second half. Thats my one pet peeve about jb is that when we have big leads that moment Rak and MCW should be playing not in this game but in past games like agianst NC State or any non confrence opponent

Because we were in a tightly contested game for a signficant portion of the second half, and there are three veteran guards--all three of whom played exceptionally well last night--ahead of MCW.

I agree--MCW had a very good first half. But let's temper things a bit with Rak / MCW. They're frosh, and probably not ready to be thrown to the wolves and trusted in pressure situations yet. But on a positive note, they've both been getting doses of developmental playing time of late, and in both cases [MCW in particular] they've earned additional playing time in future games. Against NC State, MCW didn't play on the road. Against DePaul / Providence, he did -- and contributed. He's trending the right way...and earning PT for his efforts.

Was he so hurt that he could not come back in the game, like Marquette in the tourny?

Warrior.

This is the benefit of depth, and is surely something that we, as diehard SU fans used to 7 man rotations, are having trouble adapting to.

Mason

LOL, no doubt.

What stupid pass? You mean the bounce pass to CJ that got tipped away? He didn't get pulled then.

yes the telagraphed pass to CJ and he got pulled the next trip down

Okay, so your argument is that if a guy is hot for two minutes he should play the rest of the game even if he's cooled off/stopped looking for his shot/got tired (because at least one of those things was the case.)

If that's your argument, then I can't argue with you, because it's a moronic argument.

This site proves the idea of the hedonic treadmill, you just need something to complain about. Have fun.

>>Hes the reason this game went from way too close for comfort to this game is over. My issue is THIS IS HOW WE ALL WANT TRICHE TO PLAY!! JB TOO!! He has the potential to play like this almost every game, aggressive, confident.>>

I want BT to step up and make this team even better than it is as much as anyone, but were you not watching the game or for that matter the season so far. We've had different guys step up all year. If BT hadn't taken those shots, someone else would have. The game broke open mostly b/c of the defensive side of the ball stopping them during that run. We've had big runs all year. With the stops, maybe if others had taken the shots BT made they wouldnt have been made three's, but there would have been shots taken by someone else and given how well everyone shot last night, who is to argue they wouldnt have fallen also. That is the great thing about this team, we have enough guys that someone different can step up each night. Would it be nice for BT to play like that every game, sure. But reality is we don't need him to. JB has given BT so much time to become the player he could be, he has talked him up in the press by saying he doesnt know how good he is. Did seem a bit odd to yank him given the situation and he hand't had a 'heat check', but he put in another guard who had an equally good game and now its JBs fault that he's ruining BT's confidence. The only person stopping Brandon from being the more consistent player he could be is Brandon. Blaming JB given the rope he's given BT to find his confidence is comical.

While on the topic of guards, I don't think its debateable that BT is the 4th best defensive guard this year. The other guys seems a bit more active and the steal stats prove that. Maybe once we got a lead JB wanted to go with better defensive players vs a team we were having a tough time stopping at times and just stayed with it.

no. he got pulled about 2 minutes later right after the coast to coast. there were several possessions after that pass.

The conspiricy theorists are all here today.

As others have suggested, we have three or four good guards. Who cares how or when they play. That is JB's choice and he is right far more than we are.

The only other thing I thought of was Brandon's foot problem. Maybe JB didn't want to put anymore pressure on having it come back.

Bottom line: It's all good, we won another game and all the guards played well.

This is lunacy. Of the four guards, Triche is fundamentally the soundest defensively.

Steal stats alone are not a very good indicator of defensive ability. If you really believe they are, I've got some swamp land you may be interested in.

The hall of fame coach disagrees with you. JB has publicly stated this season he believes Dion is our best guard defensively. Stick to your day job.

To be fair, he states all kinds of wild absolutes. Like today, when he said that Dion is as unguardable as anyone he's coached. To which Mssrs. Pearl and Sherm would reply, "Huh?"

scoop was at the table before that layup, but you are right it was like a 1:40 after the TO

yes, scoop went to the table when pu had the ball and before triche went the length of the court. but between the pass to fair and when he came out there were several things that happened like kjo charging, a dion deep miss, a timeout and i think xmas fouling out or xmas coming in for melo. but he didn't get pulled for the turnover. hell, the guy that should have been pulled is kjo. after triche made his 3rd 3, kjo got that fast break dunk from scoop but then proceeded to lose the ball for a turnover, air ball a 3 and make a charge. that is when they should have been looking for triche, while he was hot, but kjo made that dunk and then started dribbling too much looking for his own shot.

yup you were right all that happened in the 1:40

maybe he got pulled because of that rebound he lost that lead to the 5th foul on Rak

There is no question we are stacked at guard. Despite having great players behind BT, it was still a peculiar sequence after BT caught fire. I was hoping the players would run a play for him or keep riding that streak, but instead he did not get the ball back right away and then was taken out. I would have had no problem running an iso for him even if it was a heat check type shot. The guy was on fire.

I never said he should have played the rest of the game, i said jb should have put him back in after giving him a breather. And it wasnt just a 2 minute stretch, did you see his last basket? He looked like freakin michael jordan with that coast to coast acrobatic layup. Theres no way triche even attempts doing something like that unless his confidence is sky high. When triche is feeling that good, i want him on the court, cuz it doesnt happen that often.

It was an odd decision, but not egregious. Triche has been in the game late during most of our games, was suprised to see that change against PC. To me, it wasn't that he took Triche out, it was that he never came back in. Just thought it was odd once we went to the stall not to go three guards, considering that we weren't using a Center anyway.

and you had scoop on the floor with his 45% FT shooting...
