Tucker Dordevic transferring to Georgetown

Well I thought this season couldn’t get any worse. Turns out I was wrong. Obviously this looks very bad in the staff. If he hadn’t said anything mid season I don’t think anyone would be shocked. But after a six game losing streak and rumors of dysfunction, it just looks even worse. That was a nice statement by Dordevic, but I don’t really buy that he believes in this staff.

Not trying to say anything that others haven’t. I’m in the doctah Lexus camp and have to say this is a very bad sign. As a program SU shouldn’t be losing kids like Tucker, they should be attracting them. Now what sort of pitch are the coaches going to make to transfers? I would think we are out of the running for most fifth year guys.

I’m wondering if this means the “seniors”, guys like Cook, Fiorini and Magnan are as good as gone. I don’t really buy the 6 years is a long time at one place argument since we just saw Kennedy do the same.

From an outsiders perspective it definitely looks like Gait is trying to blame the players he inherited. He doesn’t take any responsibility in press conferences. If he thinks all will be solved by a one group of freshmen, then I think he’s in for a rude awakening. I think he’ll rue the fact he didn’t try harder with this group.

Lastly, without Dordevic you have very few dodging options on offense. Established ones you have Corsi and that might be it. Spallina comes in and will almost be guaranteed a starting spot, but is he supposed to shoulder the entire load when it comes to breaking down a defense? He now will almost certainly draw other teams too defenseman. As good as he is that will be a very tough transition, one that would have been made a whole lot easier with Dordevic by his side.

I don't know why people are so bent on hearing Gait take responsibility. Not one of our new first year football coaches ever did either, including Marrone.

Gait needs to bring in his own players, guys who are buying in from the get go, guys who know their roles from the get go and guys who fit Gaits style (and personality) from the get go. This all matters. He's creating a new culture and fixing recruiting, this all takes some time.

I hope you are right. But I don’t think the team was that broken. He had all America quality players at attack midfield and defense. Also a very good fogo. All those players who will be going pro. I know they had issues (injuries, depth, goaltending) but he still turned them into a four win team, one of the worst in the history of Syracuse.

If we recall, Marrone dumped a ton of guys his first year. There was a lot of hand-wringing then too. It was a good move.

As for Dordevic, he's got one more chance at a National Championship. Next year, Syracuse will be talented but very young. If you look at it from his perspective, it makes sense to go to a Maryland or some program that has an equally good chance to win it all.

You make a very good point about Spallina. He is as sure of a thing as there is, but getting blanketed by elite cover defensemen in the ACC/B1G/Ivy is a far cry from (no offense to any parents out there) some of the rinky dink 16 year olds he dominates from a physical standpoint in high school. He really could have used a veteran dodging presence like Dordevic to steal some defensive attention. Getting Hiltz back helps but dodging and making the defense rotate isn't really his game. Will either need a transfer or two or someone on the roster to massively step up to share the load.

Are we sure he's fixing recruiting? 98% of the famed 2022 class was recruited by Desko (and staff).

2023 looks good, I wouldn't say great though. September is a long way away. Do they all stay committed if there is a mass exodus of current players?

Yes it was that broken. That's why many had wanted a change from Desko.

2018 8-7
2019 9-5
2021 7-6

With the defense it's more of the same imo so I think Petro specifically needs to recruit kids that share his grinder mentality.

I haven't gone through the class to be honest. But I'm pretty sure the new coaches made the inroads into the traditional power areas we've struggle to recruit. Have we ever had a St Anthony's kid before?

What about the new Maryland kids ? Desko or Petro ?

That was actually Desko, Gait and Petro got Thompson and then the long pole Figuerias to flip all other 2022 is Desko,. All of 23 is Gait

Are you guys hearing any other names that will enter or may enter the TP?

Beardsley sounds a little unhinged and judging by his twitter feed there's been a lot of that lately. Entering the portal is not "mentally weak," especially for a kid like Dordevic who already has a starting spot sewn up. Beardsley comes off as bitter and calling into a radio show to take it out on an entire generation that just happens to see the world differently, to me, is a lot weaker than anything Dordevic is doing. PS guys have been transferring to decades.

Ya thats just Beardsley being Beardsley, I can't imagine anyone takes his thoughts seriously at this point. Tucker is doing what he think is best for him. Wish him well and move on.

"This generation isn't mentally strong...on an unrelated note, are there any open lax coaching jobs for this generation?"
"This generation isn't mentally strong, I should know, I have one of the thinnest skins and most fragile ego's" - Ric Beardsley (probably)

why why leave after saying love the orange and all n it’s family here. This hope is him just testing waters and hope his other senior players go up to him and give him for even thinking bout it.

He's not testing the waters, he's not coming back. He changed his mind, the 0-6 end to the year and major roster turnover coming most likely played a role. It happens to teams all the time.

It’s going to get a lot worst before this gets better. N if he goes anywhere on acc that is just a spit in the face to cuse.

This is a horrible take. He's by all accounts an excellent young man and was a great student-athlete representative for Syracuse University. He played hard every time he was on the field. If he transfers to another ACC school for a strong MBA program, then so be it.

Syracuse administration has screwed up more than enough times since Tucker has been on campus for him to want to try something new.

Blow it up. Gives the young kids more run. This is and always was a 3/4 year rebuild.

We try and make a go by hitting the portal, there'll be plenty of good midfielders looking for PT. The attack will be fine, just young.

Offensively, we averaged (rounding) 13.4 gpg and gave up 14.7. There is bigger work to do on defense - and find a goalie.

Indeed we lose our top 3 scorers but return 3 of 6. (2 attack, 1 mid).

Of the top 3 we lost, Seebold is replaceable (barely top 150 in scoring). Curry (my favorite player) and Dordevic are hard to replace but seniors come and go. You have to replace guys like this every year.

Find aGOALIE,aFOGO,aLONG STICK DEFENDER and a ONE MAN CLEAR (exceptional speed). And HILTZ is a must keep.
