Uconn to the B12 NOT looking likely

UConn is a Big East team- period. Those teams seem to be doing fine facing and admitting their $ limitations regarding being competitive in football. Wonder how many more programs will end up in limbo as the major conferences add and conversely leave other programs behind without a conference? There may be more programs that reassess the viability or competition level of their football programs as UConn should be doing.
I suppose being a state school they have more flexibility but a $53MM and rising deficit can’t be sustainable, can it? And that’s before Hurley’s new contract.
Have to imagine they do something to get more revenue for football or make some massive cuts in everything except hoops.

It seems basketball means less and less every year. The sport is just something to do in between football seasons. Their success the last few years has got to be fun as hell for them, but in the grand scheme of things, it is not football so it is meaningless when it comes to conference affiliation. The women's team means even less, but I think they want to hang their hat on that as well.

If they were in the ACC and getting the same paychecks as us, they would probably be fine in football as they did have a glimmer of success for a year or two before the Big East fell apart.

What does the law have to do with it?
There is no basis to sue. No law against not letting them in and no contract breached so what could be claimed in a suit,?

My hunch is that UConn is going to have to keep on deficit spending for another 6-8 years and then root for chaos.

If ultimately the ACC splinters because some schools split for the B1G and other for the SEC, then I suspect a singular third "power" conference will emerge from the premiere programs left of the ACC and Big 12. That's when there will be an opportunity to glom on to that league.

I wish the ACC would add them. It is way past time.
First rumor that UConn is going to some big conference. Second, posters on our board say the ACC blew it. Third, the invite falls apart because it was never really real, posters say the ACC should add them. What football schools the ACC does have, would revolt if the ACC ever even talked to them about an invite. They don't add enough. And by enough, I mean anything at all in football.

Once they close the door on fb, they're officially a mid major. They become Gonzaga w/ great basketball & non-existent football.
Don't know if they're at that point yet- but it looks bad.
Do you think football is helping their brand now?

Do you think football is helping their brand now?
No- but as long as they have a "program", the door remains ajar, however slightly, to getting an invite from someone.
They shut down football, they officially become Georgetown, SJU, Seton Hall, and Marquette with no chance at all to move.

It's so weird that it has evolved that way. They're not sports competing for the same time. Whatever happened to the sports fan than appreciated more than one sport? I used to love that transition of football to basketball. I suppose all the early entries for basketball has just weakened it too much.

True.
It supports the argument for permitting schools to be in different conferences for different sports.

Or get out of football altogether. If they're not going to have success, they may as well focus resources on basketball - or maybe even other sports.
Can I have a nickel for how many players on D-1 MLax rosters are from/went to school in CT?
