UNC Gameday...

Reality check game.

We’re a good team, good enough to make the Final 4.

Good enough to win a natty?

Not likely.
That will always be the case with this coach. Parallels his trajectory with the women's team at SU.

Could someone more knowledgeable than me (aka all of you) as to why Spallina has been nonexistent? Didn’t think Carolina’s D was anything special coming into today.
He doesn’t have the foot speed to create his own shot.

And UNC’s defense hasn’t bothered to slide early to double him and give him a feeding opportunity.

No feeding from Joey, and no ability to beat his defender to his favorite shooting spots made him completely invisible today

Long asz season catching up with us a bit, but it is no excuse for the slop and b s. Sloppy plays kept the lead large and the O struggled playing from behind. We will be fine.

They just spelled out how well Carolina has played on defense this year. Spallina isn’t a good dodger. It’s not hard to take him off his game with a sound defense.

Combination of
* Carolinas D being well prepared for the weaknesses of our players, they forced us into bad shots & shut down Bear too
* Carolinas D being better than you thought
* Spallina not looking for his points, & inexplicably not really sure what he was looking for
* Spallina not being able to beat elite defenders 1 on 1
* nothing off ball working either, so no assists to spark his game
* unforced errors & abysmal performance on the face-off limiting opportunities

Imo

You do not need footspeed to create looks. He has made things happen initiating all year. I really do not know why we kept going back to the mids for almost literally every look down the stretch. Spallina can make plays when he initiates even without the footspeed. We should have trusted him with the ball more.

Key is how he recruits after this heralded senior class leaves. We need to match some of the talent that’s been headed to Carolina, Duke, ND and Virginia. If there’s s falloff, we’ll struggle.

Yeah that's not happening, and it's not Gaits fault

Gait is going to slide his way out of the head coaching job in no time at this rate. Beyond ridiculous the same crap continues to happen with no end in sight. 4 of Petro's 5 goals were the result of terrible slides. 3 goals were the result of sideways or backwards passes going out of bounds or over midfield. Another goal or 2 were the result of the typical horrible angle long range shot leading to an easy goal in transition. Atrocious wing play, lack of hustle on ground balls, poor ability to clear and the patented offsides violation. We're in year 5 of Gait and all of these things were present his first game.

Just watch when this team doesn't slide. They either force a shot clock violation, get a moving pick or force a long range shot that gives the goalie a chance. Yet this coaching staff continues to have them slide the split second the ball passes to the wing. Enough.

Petro’s D schooled us today.

Our D was ordinary.

How do you create looks against the #1 team in the country without foot speed? Genuinely curious.

If its his offense, then yes, they should have trusted him more.

Whatever they were looking for didn't work.

He was physically incapable of getting to his spots today.

He couldn’t back anybody down or beat them with quickness/positioning.

He becomes too gun shy against better (quicker & stronger) defenders. This is the year he needs to push through all of that.

The team will live and die by his production. He can’t be as passive and invisible as he was today if they’re gonna make a run in May.

Need to try someone else on Dom if we play them again. Soft on ball. Too much room.

Problem wasnt Dwan, Carolina picked every play to get him on a shorty with a switch and Dwan was trying to help on dodgers against the short sticks. Dwan has to fight through the picks and be told not to slide off Petro.
