They played a piss poor game n the results showed it. Everything they needed to do (gbs emo turnovers (unforced) etc) they didn’t do. Offense barely worked with ball movement or offball movement. Also carolina believe only team who double poles our midfield. Have to put a second guy in middle on O n have two guys work it together. Finn n joey should been inside n picks should been set offball. They shot themslves in foot completely n dug huge whole like did last year n once again faltered.

Now coming off a horrible game to go home to a red hott uva team who kills team with ball movement n offball plays. We slide to guys not even beat n soon as slide came they thru it back n right back to open guy on other side. Not mccool a fault but feel when he isn’t getting stops he starts guessing way more. As some goals guys were going high whole time yet he went low.

This team is still very good n can make a run for sure. They just won 6 games in a row vs brutal comp. Yes been nice having a better show today but was prob hott as hell there n they clearly weren’t on their game. What matters most now is how they respond with this bad lost. I didn’t think we win vs unc thought had chance if did all the areas we struggle with better (didn’t do that). But need to regroup n finish the season strong. Need to take care of uva first.

How do you create looks against the #1 team in the country without foot speed? Genuinely curious.

If its his offense, then yes, they should have trusted him more.

Whatever they were looking for didn't work.

Using the body. He gets to a spot near goal and can use the body to create an open look. Making plays out of picks too. He has done it his whole career here. This is not something exclusive to Spallina either. Then he creates looks just purely as a feeder as well and takes advantage of guys sliding early better than anyone. Strait up sprinting by a teams best longpole is not always a reliable option either. Duffy running by Figueras is not what beat us today.

You have to ignore a zillion plays Spallina has made this year and his whole career to think he can't make things happen 1v1.

We didn’t invert our middies or set many picks behind with the invert. We let carolina dictate what we wanted to do. While also taking horrible outside looks or low angle looks.

It's the persistence of this team being less than the sum of its parts with the same mistakes that happen which have nothing to do with the level of talent. This team has 5 star recruits throwing lazy sideways passes 35 yards from goal out of bounds.

He becomes too gun shy against better (quicker & stronger) defenders. This is the year he needs to push through all of that.

He literally did not dodge once in the entire second half. We were getting open looks from the mids earlier in the second half so we kept going back to it. Too much IMO. But we did not avoid dodging with spallina because he is incapable.

Problem wasnt Dwan, Carolina picked every play to get him on a shorty with a switch and Dwan was trying to help on dodgers against the short sticks. Dwan has to fight through the picks and be told not to slide off Petro.

It is not a rule! It is just some dumb crap that only we do. It is so insane.

Whether that was a coaching decision (attack via midfield) or Joey being gun shy doesn’t change the result - he no show’d today.

The team won’t succeed with 22 being invisible or forcing skip passes on man ups. He needs the ball every possession in these types of games.

Also a crucial parts of game when trying to mount comeback we had two solid looks n failed on both. One was hahns good look he bounced wide which think could made it 3 or 2 goal game. The other was bear right on the dam crease with no one around him n he gets saved point blank. He makes this it’s a 2 goal game with almost 9mins left n maby spark we needed. He had time to catch n throw a fake. Also sums up the day right after half bear has another look but poor shot saved to go other way for a goal. Then have the almost rolled it into our own net n figgy struggles with gb no one near him n baxk to unc.

I think ipp was great. He made some
huge saves n gave us a chance. But every time we had chance to cut lead baxk to 2 someone took a rushed long range outside shot right into goalies stick. Leo’s one shot was pathetic. He was getting bodies by D guy n could see he was mad n didn’t wanna give it up n decided he was gonna fine way to shoot anyway n right into goalies stick n quickly out the other way.

Spallina def didn’t seem to be involved a ton. Not sure if was planned or what. But early in first half he barely even touched ball. When we can’t open the middle we need to throw two guys on crease. I say spallina n fin n make them work off each other. That way when slide comes spallina can pop up top n then have ur best feeder up top as other team is sliding n trying to recover. The whole team looked lost n after that terrible turnover when it’s 3-2 us at end of first was the turning point.

Think did better at the X then i expected. Problem with not winning at the X you have to be better in other areas such as gbs. Which we did not do. Our wings can not field a groundball for their life. We couldn’t even field ground balls without pressure. When losing at the X you have to be better in other areas. Have to win the gb battle. You have to be good in clearing n most important can’t have unforced turnovers. We did not do any of those things while not winning much at the X. Also johnny needs to stop jumping my gosh.

Hey we are 9-3 n out of those 3 loses one was def a mental breakdown losing by 1 to harvard. Then other two we played a piss poor first half with loads of turnovers n mistakes n games weren’t even close in princeton/unc games. We also lost both of those games at the X in those bad games. This team is very talented n can win they gotta learn how to play when things arnt going ur way n not helping bury urself by unforced turnovers or mistakes. Also both games joey was shut out or non factors by really not even pushing much to be involved. As princeton game think he only had 3 shots n this game vs unc maby 2 shots also. So if that was planned terrible plan.

Also we could not beat our guys n if we did we made terrible pass choice or just made a terrible pass. Like said what matters most now is how this team responds next week. I hope they figure things out as i will be at that game n like it to be a good trip. But they need to continue to work hard. Clearly they know their weaknesses -gbs, turnovers, clearing. Also have not loved man down lately feel like they changed the way they play it n leave way to much open lanes. Why we press out to force team to move ball when man down don’t get. Stay in until they try to penetrate. If they wanna waste time out there till ya come play let them.
