UNC Practicing Against Zone Tonight

Calling it cosmic kismet says you don't get it.

Did you know SU has a team psychologist? Some of your grossly underrate the mood of a team. Hope everyone that is guaranteeing a win is right.
This guy?

you can look at it 2 ways. they lost tonite, theyre 0-2 in conference, they see the #2 team in the country on the road coming up next, they have a chance to turn their season around with a win. they play desperate with a nothing to lose mentality. or they lost tonite, theyre 0-2 in conference, theyre reeling, their confidence is low, they see the #2 team in the country on the road coming up next and that just lowers their confidence even more and theyre a beaten team before they even take the court. "we just lost to miami at home, how the are we gonna beat cuse on the road".

considering how theyve looked since hairston was officially declared out and im leaning towards the latter.

or none of this matters and we win by 20 no matter what happened tonite.

LOL--whatever.

You're overthinking it. If UNC comes out and plays / executes well, they'll have a chance to win. That has virtually nothing to do with how they performed in this game tonight against Miami. And if we play / execute well, we're going to be tough to beat...at home, in front of a big crowd, with our confidence, with our battle tested team who's played in several tough games this season and have persevered.

How WE play is going to have a lot more to do with the outcome of the game than whether UNC is desperate. And there is zero chance that we go into this game overlooking UNC or come out going through the motions.

Who cares? Psychology is overrated in sports.

WHAT????? Blasphemy! Psychology is huge in sports. Mind set, determination, optimism, pride, intention - all psychology. I bet you can't name one thing in basketball that isn't psychological.

But - I have to go to bed now and can't respond until tomorrow.

Let me rephrase: armchair psychology is overrated in sports.

I didn't over think anything. Go back and read my first post. I simply stated our game would be more difficult. Nothing deep there. I think we win on talent but I'm not guaranteeing it like some are.

Who mentioned armchair psychology?

I didn't guarantee a win--I said I like our chances.

And I'm not concerned about mumbo jumbo impacting the game nearly as much as matchups, defense, rebounding, and sound execution of our offensive sets. We can absolutely lose this game--UNC has proven that they are dangerous against several highly ranked opponents this year. I believe that we are better than them, and will rise to the occasion / won't stub our toe against UNC in the Dome. We aren't going to overlook these guys. We'll come out ready to play. I believe that our best performance capability is better than their best.

One thing that's giving me a psychological boost is, and I'm not an optimist about anything, we've played our best basketball against the better teams so far this year. NC is a team that should get our best shot.

People in this thread trying to read tea leaves and make attributions about motivational factors.

If you say so. It's a fact psychology plays a role in athletic events. Nobody said it plays a bigger role than talent or coaching etc. but it plays a role. If you don't understand that then so be it.

That's what I heard.

That's crazy(or to be sentimental toward last season on here, "cray"). They are a bigger underdog that a Virgina Tech team battling the flu and other afflictions? I guess it's all about public perception, but that's a lot of chalk to lay against an enigmatic team like UNC.

I'm just really shocked they had the line out so far ahead of the game.

This is common knowledge on this forum--certainly not looking to brag--but I did my doctoral work in psychology, so feel free to enhance my "understanding" about how the armchair psychology discussed earlier in this thread will affect Saturday's game outcome.

BTW, we can dispense with the straw man argument about psychology playing "a role" in sports which nobody disputes.

SU is a 13 pt favorite? Really?

I would never bet against SU ever.

But I might recommend it to some friends. UNC and 13 pts is an attractive bet. The bookies are using this as a teaser and are trying to get a lot of action.

Your opinion. I'll take the 3 even though Nova can play with any of them. Baylor was an upset, it happens.

Baylor wasn't an upset. They are good. Iowa State is a tough place to play.

I think the line will be 8 or so. Tech had all 3 of their guys back for us.

Dammit, this is a clash of the titans here ladies and gentlemen. Like when you watched saturday morning WWF and every match had a guaranteed winner(although Leaping Lanny Poffo made it close a few times, at least). I'm not talking about SU vs UNC either. I am going to the fridge for a beer and coming back with piqued interest.

I believe in our team this year. We're on the verge of something special--I can feel it.
are you . . . all in?

I actually agree with Bees here . . . UNC has proven that they can beat good teams, and they will come in Saturday desperate for a win. Now, I think SU wins - JB owns Roy Boy after all, but this game is like facing a wounded animal.

They did, but the announcers were saying they had to have IVs for hydration and werent likely at 100% if I understood correctly. I'm not sure if vegas also took the students being away into account, although they should have, although I am not so sure they took the weather into account like football(as far as further nullifying the home court factor). I like the sounds of the 8 much better and think it would be an attractive bet to some.

A wounded and cornered animal at that.

What are you, a taxidermist?

If anyone watched the game tonight, you saw a VERY mediocre UNC team. And if you watched the Wake Forest game on Sunday, you saw the same thing.

Nothing about the team I have seen over the past 5 days scares me in the slightest. Have no idea how they beat Michigan State on the road but that was over a month ago.

Not to mention they played a late night game tonight, and play an early afternoon game on Saturday. Meaning they really only have tomorrow and Friday to prepare for Syracuse, with travel to SU taking up part of the day on Friday.
