Uniforms @ Central Michigan revealed

You're right...racism and uniforms are the same thing...and finding the root cause of both are equally important. Sociological studies should be performed on both.

Where we differ is that I think you're being a little (read: incredibly) liberal with defining why people don't like the uniforms as something that "matters." It doesn't.

I think he has implied that it doesn't matter as he said repeatedly that he is basically fueling this discussion because he is bored...could be wrong, but that is my perception...

Man, you're the tits -- but, honestly, how many times have you had this conversation with them? And is it, again, honestly the deciding factor between whether they like Syracuse or not?

Most games I hear at least 10 "Go Blue! The Syracuse Blue!"

And no, it's not the deciding factor if they like them or not, but I think its definitely a factor. For people who are trying to pick their favorite college team for the first time (Everyone here pretty much just follows NFL and Hockey) having a team that has a color as their name, and they don't wear that color, it's easier for them to crack jokes, then to listen to me explain to them about "44" and our history.

I'm dealing with drunk Alaskans here.. I need to keep it as simple as I can lol. You tell them to root for the Orange, and they see a blue team on the field, they get all confused.

Batting .500, slugger -- well done. The uniforms don't matter -- but I didn't say racism and uniforms are the same thing. See the first part of my answer.

Yes digs and attacks. And everyone who doesn't like the uni's, including me, have said why. You just don't want to read them and continue to take shots.

And Kaiser is not human. He's a figment of your imagination.

The Kaiser is a human and a half...

Hope Bees doesn't read this -- as he doesn't think people pick teams based on color. An 18-year-old is the same as a drunk Alaskan, no?

Well...your patronizing argument is piss poor and posters like you make this board less enjoyable to visit, but I'll leave it at that. Stoke away.

Yeah, let's harp on stupidity instead -- that's reeling them in.

I skimmed this thread, but I think Bees was referring to recruits, who were deciding which school they would spend the next 3-4 years playing at, to try to make it to the next level. If I'm a top D1 recruit, and I'm picking a school based on the color of their jerseys, then I'd be cool with someone calling me an idiot. They pick schools for 100 other reasons.

I'm talking about drunk 40 year olds here.

They aren't all about the color of uniforms. There's some Broadway mixed in. What casino is best in Vegas is next.

And I wasn't being serious. But out of curiosity, how many "top D1" recruits has SU pulled in in the last five years? And do the next tiers have different criteria?

I don't think I've visited the OT boards -- but (responding to the post above) I saw "Book of Mormon" and it was FABULOUS!

I know how to derail this thread...

We have a minor league baseball team in Fairbanks. The Goldpanners. Turns out, they like to call girls the C word. I'm the fella in the Orange hat, trying to defuse the situation. You see my head turn to the right, took a sucker punch. Started a good ol Alaskan brawl. Haven't been apart of something like this since high school. Enjoy

The best part is the PxB.

Wow, really? You think that Syracuse is on par with the Yankees? You think that Syracuse football uniforms are as recognizable as the Yankees' are? I'm not demeaning Syracuse. Comparing any other sports team in the entire United States to the Yankees is just silly. The only brand comparable might be Manchester United or Real Madrid. They're entirely different levels. People would notice if the Yankees dropped the pinstripes. It's much more recognizable than anything SU has put out in terms of uniforms. It's night and day.

But college football is constantly changing -- rosters, coaches, conferences entirely -- and there's a lot of pressure to keep up with the Joneses. I think SU is doing an excellent job doing that in the uniform department. If it helps bring in talent, that's fantastic. College sports are so fluid, I think it's difficult not to change with it. Baseball is different, especially the Yankees. No game has stayed the same as much as baseball has over the years. Not much changes.

You're wrong on many levels.

The uniforms do not bring in talent.

The question is not whether "Syracuse is on par with the Yankees" whatever that means.

Regardless of the amazing history of the SU Football Program - something I just don't seem to think you appreciate - the issue is branding.

The Yankees would never mess with their brand. Just like Oklahoma and Alabama and others won't mess with theirs.

Rutgers was quick to do it because it never had a football brand. ND does it because ND has become a corporate entity that has jettisoned much of what made it special.

I would prefer to follow Bama and USC than follow Oklahoma State and other schools who really have no brand.

The fact is that most college football fans do recognize the traditional SU Football uniform - and most agree that it's a great uniform. In fact, over the years, many copied the uniform - Illinois, Clemson and Florida to name three.

We have a recognizable brand that we have dumped. Why? Because we have an administrator who used to be at Oregon and who is trying to leave a mark at SU?

Reasonable people can disagree.

You know my position.

Well, I did say "Syracuse isn't the Yankees", which made you bite and tell me I'm a bad fan. It's hard to be reasonable when you tell me my opinion is wrong.

But anyways... I just don't see what the SU tradition has to do with the uniforms. The new ones are more intriguing, the players love them, recruits love them. If it were 2000, maybe people would have recognized a McNabb jersey. The fact of the matter is, while SU has tradition, their tradition isn't their uniform. It doesn't have to be. Let tradition be tradition and the uniforms be uniforms. They don't depend on each other. Oregon has created an identity with their uniforms. They've been pretty crazy the last 6-7 years. Coincidentally, in the same timespan, they've had 3 conference titles and 3 divisional titles. Before that? 2001, 2000, 1994. 3 in a 14 year span.

Kind of sounds like Syracuse pre-2008. Where Oregon rebranded, they found success. Cranking up on some of the creative aspects doesn't have to hurt tradition, it can really help re-establish it. Those 44 undershirts the team had a few years ago were fantastic. They honored the tradition of SU while adding a sleek look. Don't really see the problem there. It can be an opportunity to start anew, which SU Football has had to do since Robinson was fired. Some see it as an opportunity to propel, some see it as a slap in the face. I'm sure it can be successful both ways.

This thread is embarrassing. Todd is pure trolling. I rarely agree with Bees and respect the hell out of OrangePa, SWC75, AFO, and love the energy from Cusetroop. Just blow this thread up. People should be able to respect each side of the uniform debate without one person trolling with a position for reasons I can't figure out.

Agree x 1000%.

Outside of the fringe - most can see some validity to the opposite side of the argument.

Let's unite around kicking CMU's arse tomorrow.

I've been trying my ass off to turn my Alaska buddies into SU fans. And it's working for the most part. But it gets annoying when I have to explain 100 times, why a team named the Orange, is wearing all blue.. or all white.

Add that up there with "Wait.. they don't grow Oranges in NY do they?"
Just tell them that Nike heard that the Carrier Dome doesnt' have air conditioning and they rolled with the theme.
