Update: Dungey's injury is not career-ending

AJ went for a 2nd opinion, so chances of seeing Eric again are slim. Especially with the lawsuit filed by the former player, the University can't take any chances.

the hit was to his non throwing arm, so he could throw but not able to take a hit, while it may well be a head issue, it could also be a shoulder issue and maybe he isnt cleared for contact.

its all speculation for most of us.

prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

There seems to be a trend these days of pundits, newscasters, experts, etc. redefining what is plain to see with your own two eyes. I don't care what Babers says, I SAW Dungey get a hard helmet to helmet tackle, period. I can only conclude that that his injury involves the brain, concussion or otherwise. The only thing I'm not sure about is how serious it is. Notwithstanding, his health comes first!

I really didn't see helmet to helmet, live or on replay. I saw him get rocked hard, but it looked like the hit was to the shoulder. Doesn't mean it wasn't a concussion, I just didn't see helmet to helmet unless I missed something.

Agreed. I don't know why that guy is whining. I still think something with his neck which is never good.

Yeah, there's really no way to know. He got hit hard and couldn't get up at first. Maybe he was out. Maybe he was not out and it had nothing to do with his head and he went numb or something. No way to know unless something comes out.

I am thinking the same thing. A neck or spine thing. Then again what the hell do I know?

Why would it be??? The chicken little mentality, around Syracuse in general, is astounding.

Is this the mentality people approach their everyday lives with?

He was walking around the sidelines talking 20 minutes later, yeah, pretty good flocking indication that the injury he'd sustained is not "career ending."

I'm amazed that this drags on. I was amazed that he wasn't cleared to play last week, but, that opinion was based on the assumption that he'd practiced the Tuesday prior. Regardless, career ending is absurd.

I felt the exact same way but then I started getting a bit uneasy when he went for a second opinion. Not panic mode, just a bit concerned.

Honestly, that can go both ways. I know of an individual this year who was cleared right away for a concussion. But, because of their own reasoning wanted a second opinion, more for precaution than anything else. It was three weeks before that appointment happened. Essentially, lost the majority of the season to be cleared by another doctor. But, I know exactly what you're saying.

Depends on how you define career. His Syracuse career could be over, his football career still has life

It just feels dirty that post standard reporters use inside sources to get a scoop on a college sophomores protected health information.

Agreed, furthermore, there's really no new information in the blurb other than the fact that a "source" doesn't believe it's career-ending. Literally, no information but that piece right there.

Even the follow up about meeting the doctor, all they do is push his former decisions on concussion related issues.

Literally nothing about a concussion has been released. Steer the story PS, steer the story.

I'd call it good reporting. No protected information has been released from what I can see in either article.

It is toeing the line at best.

You must he a national inquirer subscriber.

I have to say that people here have no idea how head injuries develop. Perhaps all fans should be made to interview old football players that have sustained head injuries to discover exactly what the future holds for people that have sustained numerous hits to the head. A person's life is a lot more important than a football game.

BTW: Anyone know why Syracuse doesn't have a neurologist making these final career decisions on concussions as opposed to a family doc? As a child of two family doctors, and the brother of another one, I totally respect their skill level, but the brain is not their specialty. Seems like a kink in the system. There are specialists in medicine for a reason. Those that specialize tend to know more and be better at that particular subject matter than generalists.
