Wake Forest Postgame

So the wife wanted to get home for NYE, so we hit the road early to drive back south. Needless to say we didn’t stick around to watch the game live, so I listened to the TV broadcast while driving through VA on i81s. We are stopped for gas/restroom, so not sure if it was said in the game thread or elsewhere… but Seth Greenberg said before the first half that neither team has a point guard… and then when it was thrown back to the guys calling the game they said something similar that the talk around town the past two days was no Cuse PG is hurting them.

Carlos getting in foul trouble early may have been a forced blessing otherwise he would’ve stayed in per usual. Cuffe played well in the first half. Taylor too. Bench got them back in game the game. Second half subs/ no subs was on Red… again. Another winnable game lost.

The announcers said that Lampkin is the point guard in the half court set. Swear. LoL

I mean, that kinda was the plan going into this season. Lampkin would be a pseudo-PG due to his strong passing skills.

Obviously, we can throw that on the 20 foot high pile of horrific plans and failed talent evaluations.

And if that's the plan...

Why exactly does Carlos have to play so much?

Not sure what that last 12-14 mins of no subbing or anything was. That’s all on Red. Baffling
I really don’t know what is going on right now but Autry is either over thinking things or trying to make a smaller bench but what he’s doing clearly isn’t working

Mimicking the chubby dude from NC State last season hasn't worked out so well..

Hard for Freeman to do much when he sits on the bench.
23 minutes is quite a bit of a time and honestly most of his minutes I didn't notice him on the floor. He looked gimpy to me but his effort needs to improve ten fold.

I’m guessing it’s because Lampkin had been hurt, which meant he was unable to get in shape. Or maybe he was out of shape and that led him to get hurt. Either way he wasn’t ready to start the season and play big minutes. Not that he’s ever really played big minutes.

So yeah, it was another bad miscalculation by this staff.

And he got more money out of us by hiding out in Texas. What a bust.

After a tough game like this the team is going to be feeling down.

All we can hope is that Autry takes them out to practice and has them practicing windmill dunks again! More windmill dunk practice, less free throws!

LGO!!!!

But at least with Moore you have a chance to get something on the offensive end with Carlos you are playing 4 on 5.
Moore scored 0 points, I'd say fat chance at getting something

I just don't know what to make of Cuffe. In the moment, it felt like he was having a good game, was active and involved, and I said in the game thread that he should start over Carlos.

But you look at the box score, and Carlos went 5-9 from the field and Cuffe 2-14. I know that doesn't paint the entire picture especially regarding defense, but that is a massive disparity.

Carlos had 4 uncontested layups at the end of the game

Yeah, this was another amazing comment during the game. It's all starting to make sense.

You guys are putting way too much effort into this

Bad coach
Bad players
Bad results

John wooden ain’t winning with these guys
And if we had the 199 UNLV roster , red would lose with em

They deserve each other

I think that is false. I think there are multiple games we have lost based on who our head coach is.

Yeah, Cuffe should also have had some time on the bench in the second half. That being said, his aggressiveness paid some dividends in getting WF into serious foul trouble with 16 min to go in the second half, and played some solid D. He's certainly no saviour, just like JJ can't really save the team by returning. He has shot the ball better of late though, just didn't knock down the threes today.

Carlos' really excelled when the game was over. Which he usually does late in games.
He did have some solid moments though - I don't think the expectation is that he's a zero minute guy. He had a good feed to Donnie, and a couple moments in the second half where he got the ball to people down low in a position to score. He missed a front end of a 1&1 that really hurt when we were up 4, and another a bit later with an airball smashed in there too. I'm not sure he offers up the same intensity though, and can't mix it up as much certainly.
