Was that a competent offense?

You did see him catch a 16 yards right? That is what he is there for.

He couldn't do that as a WR on the outside?

I've never understood Lewis as a hybrid. He's clearly thought of as more of a traditional h-back, like a smaller tight end like Carl Cutler was when he was here.

I like the kid, but he just doesn't have nearly the speed necessary to play the position the way Lester seems to want to use it. If you want him in the backfield, make him some sort of fullback/tight end hybrid, and that'll work fine. But don't try to run the ball with him, please. It's not going to work.

It seems like we always run wide plays like end-arounds or whatever that was with slow guys.

i get confused by the comments on lewis and his speed. he is the only wr we had last year that actually ran away from people multiple times. i dont think he is nearly as slow as people make him out out to be.

People are making race-based assumptions. Ha ha. It took some people a long time to realize Troy Nunes was quicker than RJ Anderson.

But he's hardly as fast as Phillips, Estime, Strickland, Perkins, etc. etc.

its not negative-ITS CALLED REALISTIC -

the offense was playing against a turrable d - dungy didnt give the game away and looked ok- but it was against a d that was just plain awful
no it's negative. You could not possibly be any more glass half empty!

I thought we looked fantastic yesterday. Yes we played a shxtty D1aa team but we also lost our starting QB and tossed a true Frosh in there.

Despite having a kid 3 mos out of HS under center our offense looked MUCH more competent than it ever did under McD's cluster fxck of a game plan.

Overall the youth looked fantastic. Sure it was vs RI but if Hunt had to go down we caught a break it happened so early since Dungey now has a chance to start vs Rhody, then face a bottom feeder ACC team, then CMU before a seeing a ranked team.

Even if we need to take our lumps this year as the kids mature the future is bright!

Hey bcubs, have you spoken to Steven yet? If so, what did you have to say about his first college game experience? He looked good out there. I was telling my wife that he was an 18 year old freshman, and she said "that guy? He's only 18? He's HUUUUGGGEEEE!" lol.

Hey Tex!

Just got off the phone with Steven. He said the RI game was just like playing in high school. The RI o-linemen were no challenge to him whatsoever.

lol. Uh oh, locker room fodder for WF. Wonder how long before there's a thread on Wake's board about this.

Strickland is going to find a way on the field somewhere.

Maybe receiver.

We're overloaded at XB.

Perkins will be moved to tailback now that Washington's people have stopped making demands.
he needs to stay where he is imho the breakout freshman--kid is awesome---but i am also very partial to jersey guys, and i was a syracuse townie!!!

Did Shy play yesterday? I thought he did but Bailey says he didn't.
No shy and Troy Henderson didn't play. Most likely red shirting. We will see injuries and other factors could change that... But that's what it looks like right now

I think I sort of like that. Kids don't, but it generally works out for the best.

Lol No the kids DONT. It is what it is. They both have great players ahead of them. I believe it is going to make shy work harder to try and get on the field but like I say it is what it is. I can tell you there is a few things about red shirting you may not know that makes it even harder on the kids. We will see this week how shy is when we come up for the wake game

Donovan was a redshirt -pretty good company!

Bar may be too low on this (cue Chris Rock "you're supposed to!), but for a new offense with so many freshman playing I thought it was good that there were so few false starts, illegal formations, delay of games or timeouts burned.

Delay of game on the first play, one non-clock saving timeout burned. That's all I remember.

Did anyone on the offense other than George Morris have a penalty?

I hope that's a sign of an organized OC who relates to his players. Because we're 1-0 and I can still have hope.
the timeout thing was the first thing i noticed with 1 or 2 minutes left in 1st half we still had 3 timeouts last yr we were lucky to have one after 1st quarter

No I know there have been many great players who redshirt. I know there is a lot of upside to red shirting. But it is hard for these kids who were the star of the show last year to not be in the travel team this year. There is just parts that mentally the kids have to adjust to

On the pass that Dungey threw at Erv's back there was a receiver wide open in the back of the end zone. Eric will see that by years end.
yea i think it was ish running across the back line wide open

he looked slow on the jet sweep he ran though

Yes, he looked very slow. I truly don't think there is one type of H Back. We saw double wing formations almost every down. As a matter of fact, I don't remember seeing any formation that wasn't single or double wing. I believe that Lewis is there for blocking and with his good hands an outlet. He caught that 16 yard pass up the middle (seam route?). That is his strength, I think.

Now it's on film that there's at least a possibility that he will run it. Do I think it will happen very often? No, I don't, but at least they have to account for it to a degree. Kind of like Nassib taking off on the read option. They had to account for it, even though the result was not usually a big gain.
