Wasnt Stadium info supposed to come out this week?

If you listened to Matt Park today in an interview he said we could " potentially get a new dome stadium" That kind of tells me that nothing is set in stone on this.

As we all know, Matt Park has airtight connections.

Perhaps our insiders got only part of the story and speculation about a release date for the decision got convoluted with fact. Anyway, we are supposed to hear from the Chancellor about plans for the Dome by the end of the year aren't we? That's less than three months from now. I'd rather they got it right than got it early.

Ok this is what I heard, looking like November after the board meeting. There may be an announcement. Nothing set in stone.

And I just heard from someone who spoke with someone at the University who should know and was told no announcement until the end of the year.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.

I guess it's pretty serious.

LOL... well the person I a spoke with is a little better connected than that...maybe.

I heard there will be no new stadium because we are going to be outsourcing our athletic teams. We will be choosing from among those schools whose initials have SU in them: LSU, Michigan State, Stanford, Miss State, etc. In return for a fee of around $1.0 million that will come from the student activity fee, plus a sharing of merchandise sales revenue, we will get to claim their results as our own. I understand it will be one school across the board. For example, we can't pick LSU for football and Michigan State for hoops. I'm pulling for Michigan State.

that would make sense too

i was told just yesterday a new hard top, and a bunch of new boxes and was also told the archibold gym building was going to be phased into the plans. Whether it's going to be torn down or not I wasn't sure. Pool wing gone. I wasn't told of any west side expansion.

my immediate question was 'more boxes?' where, in the endzones? the talk was around the upper level maybe accessed by elevators. "the current structure makes all the design elements really complex." "but they're hustling to get this going"

i also said, hard top - translucent maybe ? or something like the Europeans are doing and I got a laugh, that the Europeans are way ahead of us in design.

Anyhow, my source is rock solid and my takeaway was a hard top (non retractable) with East side expansion and a bunch of new boxes.

If that's all they're doing then this will be a miserable failure. Agree that would be a start but people needs actual seats, at least for the bottom layers and mezzanine sections. I understand the complexity of the existing structure but adding boxes will please the few, alienate the many. Depending on how they expand east and use, what would then be the old Archibold Gym, will be just as important. fans need a place they can meet, congregate, sort of or actually a place to tailgate before/after the games. Needs an outside appeal/feel but protected from elements so weather won't dampen the experience. I'd prefer they expand west so to make alive so to speak the tail-gaiting that does take place and also with an open venue over looking the landscape. This also would keep intact good old Archibold. The hard top is a non issue as it has to happen. Would I like an expandable roof, sure, but I think we all know money could be spent in other facets for pre/post game areas and comforts in game that money would be much better spent on. Thanks for listening.

Was it the same person that told you it would be a couple weeks?

j/k :). Busting your chops and I know how these things go.

Instead of potentially knocking down Archbold, any chance they can expand west and take out that hideous $100M law building monstrosity? Maybe expand even further down the hill and take out that cheap a$$ student housing facility as well.

I'd dump the physics building. Then you'd have a clean connection from the Quad to the Dome.

If I'm not mistaken this is the same plan that Jake had posted, Im going with this.

Thanks. Well that's exactly what i was told yesterday, hard top and Archbold expansion. Archbold expansion would be designed as the main entrance.

Makes sense. Most of the pedestrian traffic coming from the shuttle busses and the rest of campus hits the Archbold side of the Dome first anyways.

One of them.

I do know one thing for sure as I just took the time to scroll back through the agendas for the Panning Commission meetings, and man some of that stuff is so petty on signage modifications, nothing has been submitted yet. My guess is that if they are planning to do something with Archbold it will involve an engineering study that I am sure SU will want completed before applying for a permit. Look at the circus that went on with the drainage and the city for the IPF.
