Wasnt Stadium info supposed to come out this week?

One of them. I do know one thing for sure as I just took the time to scroll back through the agendas for the Panning Commission meetings, and man some of that stuff is so petty on signage modifications, nothing has been submitted yet. My guess is that if they are planning to do something with Archbold it will involve an engineering study that I am sure SU will want completed before applying for a permit. Look at the circus that went on with the drainage and the city for the IPF.

We can't even get work done on the empty lot next to the Fine lot which is supposed to also be parking. ESF is in the middle of that one. It's been weeds and junk for 2 seasons now.

If I'm not mistaken this is the same plan that Jake had posted, Im going with this.

Well this sounds dissapointing. If its simply a new hardtop, they HAVE to update the lighting.

We need a new retractable roof stadium, seating capacity of 44,444 for football. all actual seats, plenty of suites. Ok, who's got $750 mil or so laying around so we can get this done?

If that's all they're doing then this will be a miserable failure. Agree that would be a start but people needs actual seats, at least for the bottom layers and mezzanine sections. I understand the complexity of the existing structure but adding boxes will please the few, alienate the many. Depending on how they expand east and use, what would then be the old Archibold Gym, will be just as important. fans need a place they can meet, congregate, sort of or actually a place to tailgate before/after the games. Needs an outside appeal/feel but protected from elements so weather won't dampen the experience. I'd prefer they expand west so to make alive so to speak the tail-gaiting that does take place and also with an open venue over looking the landscape. This also would keep intact good old Archibold. The hard top is a non issue as it has to happen. Would I like an expandable roof, sure, but I think we all know money could be spent in other facets for pre/post game areas and comforts in game that money would be much better spent on. Thanks for listening.
Yes...lets build more boxes for the people that are (NOT) filling the current expensive seats. If anything...they should expand the $99 seating areas all the way to the 25 yard line on both ends of the Dome. Maybe keep bleachers for all $99 seating and do the stupid seats everyone wants for the expensive seats( this would make basketball all bleachers still for the most part ). Expand the west wing with restaurants / hotel / classrooms for radio/tv classes etc. The west side of the Dome should be like the Skydome in Toronto( rogers center now I believe unless they changed it again). Take down Archbold and expand that side as well with a giant stadium entry with escalators / bars etc. Let's do this thing right.

Yes, I work across the street from them. They are in Onondaga Tower.
I always wondered when we would use them. The lighting and sound system in The Dome is horrific now. I feel like we just spent a couple million about 10 years ago for speakers in The Dome but they never sounded good to me.

I would think the lighting would have to get changed with a hard top. The Dome has always been brighter during the day as the current roof allows some light in, but i would think a new roof would change the way the current lighting looks.

The bubble roof makes it almost impossible for it to sound good.

They can't tear down Archbold. It is part of the Comstock tract of buildings...I'm not even sure they can do modifications to the exterior.

The Comstock Tract buildings of Syracuse University were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Included in the registration are 15 buildings, all located on the original Syracuse University campus, a tract of land donated by George Comstock. The buildings include what has been known as the "Old Row".

Those LED lights are typically blue or sharp white from what i have seen, so yea i agree. I really hope we go with some sort of clear roof though if we go the hardtop route. The comment about Europe being ahead of us in engineering and design doesn't add up because the Vikings are getting a clear roof. This roof would make The Dome the coolest stadium in College...

Good...and they can make Archbold into a great part of the arena. Keep the look outside but enhance the arena by using the inside as part of the overall design.

SU can do what they do around where I live where everything is historic - keep the shell and rebuild the inside.

My crazy idea is to blow out the 2nd and 3rd deck on the east side and have that as a patio / suite type deal connecting to Archbold.

They might not be able to tear it down or change the exterior but based on what was done with the renovation of the Hall of Languages in the 1980s, they can destroy the interior and rebuild it differently without a problem. They added another floor to the Hall of Languages as part of that renovation so now, the floors and the windows no longer line up. That being said, Archbold Gym is, IMHO, not a historic building that needs to be saved. It is a generic and unremarkable building that says 'this is the worst architecture left from the 1950s' to me. I love many old buildings and still get heartburn when I think about what was done to almost all of the James Street mansions. But Archbold is just an ugly building that should never have been built. Rip it down, and take HBC and Hinds Hall down too while you are at it.

That is basically it that they have to retain the exterior look of the building.

Once they put a building on one of those Historic Preservation lists it is hard to get permission to change things.

I could be wrong, but I would doubt they are expanding the luxury box capacity.

I'm guessing (with no connections or inside knowledge whatsoever) that there might be a move to put the luxury boxes in the third level, and make the 200 level into club seating. It would make sense because most modern stadiums are set up this way, and the questionnaire that went out earlier this year was intended to gauge interest in club level seating (among other things).

Maybe the "A" and "B" level preferred becomes club level seating, and the lower level sideline prices go down for seats inside the 20s.

Here's what they did with the historic structure that was on the Carrier Dome site before the Dome was built.

On a side note, the team used to run out of the tunnel from Archbold. Maybe the new locker rooms will be built inside Archbold and that can happen again.

The Vikings are a pro organization. Syracuse is a small college. No matter, the chuckle and comment was about design not engineering and I should've left it out. But seriously, I wouldn't expect some fancy progressive roof design unless it's within budget. The budge is the 100 million dollar question.

I'd prefer they think long term on the roof, care, maintenance and replacement. Heck, maybe even some solar elements thats caplable of running the Dome's electric etc. Who knows, it's only a roof though.

Your ideas are nothing new and maybe that's in the overall plan. Giant stadium entry with escalators / bars etc would be great and while details weren't told to me, that archbold east side being a big entrance was. I assume (hope) that it's done right with all those bells and whistles.

I don't know if it was more boxes or just moving the boxes. that's a good question, i didn't ask.

I'd like to know the cost on the picture you posted

Only the northern end of the building is original and, I believe, protected - the red brick portion is as you've described. Since Archbold was badly damaged by fire in the '40s and modified since, I'm sure the interior is not protected. The whole thing's going to be gutted and I imagine much of the southern end could be demolished.

My only question is what is housed in that end? It is possible to make old and new "match".
