We call ourselves

Rabid Cuse fans. I know I am! When did you become rabid?

Mine began during the Louie Bowie reign.

My Freshman year, which was '84-'85.

Was never into hoops at all, Pro or College, while in HS.

Got season tix both Frosh & Soph years (actually 2 sets, then sold off extras, which mostly paid for them all), and attended every home game from the student section - back when this was in the moveable bleacher section, pretty much at mid-court, about 15 rows up.

Pearl was already a national phenomenon after his stellar first year, and we played against Mullen, Ewing, and all of the great coaches in the Big East like JT, Rollie, Louie, PJ, Calhoun, Pitino, Gary Williams, etc.

My whole floor had a watch party for the '85 National Championship game, all rooting for Nova like we were students there.

Because my 2 favorite teams are: Syracuse, and whoever is playing against Georgetown **.

(** who STILL SUCKS.)

How could you NOT become rabid during that time?

Growing up in Syracuse. Season tickets my whole life. Addison, Pearl, Sherm, DC, Owens, Johnson, Wallace, Moten, Thomas. Basically was at every game from about 1982 to 1992 when I left for college. The Big East 30 for 30 feels like a documentary about my childhood.

Once I saw Pearl on CBS in front of 30,000+ fans I was hooked forever.

I've always lived in Minnesota and have only been to Syracuse one time to see them play Rutgers in the Todd Burgan era (1997?).

Funny note - I met Coach Hopkins before the game (because I got there so early) and introduced Mike to my Dad (a non-Syracuse fan who took his 25 year old son on the mini-trip of a lifetime) as the next Syracuse head coach. This is before Hop was appointed coach in waiting - Hop just laughed.

There's a whole lengthy thread on this topic in the forum archives.

Hard to imagine a guy like me living in Ontario being a fan since the early 80's. It all started one Saturday I was flipping through the channels and CBS had a Georgetown game on from the dome. I said to myself "wow, this is college basketball?" So I watched and learned a Canadian was on the team (Leo Rautins) and I was hooked.

I’ve been going to games since I was in my mother’s belly while she was going to ‘Cuse Law but I really fell in love when GMac went on his run in the 06 BET. 9 year old me must have recreated the Cincinnati shot a thousand times.

late 80s. i have no syracuse connection, i just remember seeing them on tv and the crazy dome crowd and the fast break dunks made me a fan. and im sure it helped that they were in new york state, im from queens. first game i can really remember watching was when they played michigan at the dome in 88. i was 9 haha. early 90s is when i really started following them every game.

I was bitten by the bat as a toddler watching a roomful of Cuse fans in near tears after Keith Smart. Symptoms came on little by little as I was slowly brought on watching every game. I began to foam at the mouth a little when we should have beaten Arkansas. The cycle was complete with the 96 run. Blessed to be an alum and having gotten the greatest fix for a rabid fan being a frosh in 03 for the greatest year ever.

Speaking of rabid- been going through old stuff to hang in the Cuse/media room and found my old JDub Cuse and Knicks Jersey. I found them the night before SDSU and hung both immediately. It's been some Cuse tourney magic so far since.

Born 1988 in Syracuse, earliest time I can remember is the 96 run (7 years old). Watching the games, on the edge of my seat. John Wallace still is one of my favorite players of all time. CUSE IS IN DA HOUSE OMG OMG!!!! Never looked back after that, how could you?

(as an aside, trying to remember my earliest football memory, Probably the 97 year. Opened up beating Wisconsin big in the meadowlands and then losing to NC St the very next week. I believe that was the Dee Brown trying to jump over the pile and fumbiling which was then returned for 2)

Kind of funny story, came to find out recently I was actually conceived at the 1988 sugar bowl in New Orleans. Damn you Pat Dye!!! So from a young age, I really didn’t have a choice, been all about CUSE. Season tickets to both.

Moved to Cuse in ‘81 for just a year, loved college hoops but Cuse was just another team. The fans got me hooked- so excited, so positive. They were the epitome of what fans should be. And the games were riveting. And the slew of players. I didn’t stand a chance and have bled Orange since.

Whole life. Born in '79. Lived in upstate growing up (New Berlin > Johnson City), went to Cuse undergrad and grad. Have lived in NYC since.

Sherm was really the first player that truly was my "favorite". Got to enjoy the late 80s.

If we land Kenny Anderson, people are talking about that Cuse all-time team.

Honestly, the Richmond loss is still one of the worst sporting losses of my life.

The '96 run was probably the greatest non-title sports season I've ever experienced.

There is flat out nothing like a run in the NCAAT. Nothing.

Freshman year - 1972. Can't believe that I actually dropped Geology Lab class in my junior year because it conflicted with getting a good seat at Manley Zoo for the freshman / varsity doubleheaders!
