A statement JB made during his postgame presser tonight - made with matter-of-fact resignation.

Think about that. That's the state of the program. That's where we are.

It's not the coach of Boston College or Pitt saying that. It's the coach of Syracuse saying that.

I’ve been saying this for a few months including this week and was blasted for it. We are NOT competitive. The head coach even admits it. It’s long past time for SU to make a change

Both true and just incredibly sad and disappointing.

I become more incredulous by the day with how JB talks about these results - I hear an attitude/tone of "sorry, that's just the way it is - this is who we are now" - like he's done everything he possibly can and welp that's that

Hes at the acceptance stage.

I still hear defiance rather than "acceptance." He emphasized that it's "one bad year." "Jesse was a difference maker for this team...and we lost him." "Lots of changes coming next year...6 maybe 7 new players."

Can you imagine an established SEC football coach saying we can't handle Alabama? They would be calling for his head real quick for basically saying I've given up.
And the thing is, in the case of Alabama that is actually entirely believable for like every other team.

He actually made it a point to commend his team for cutting the lead from “30 down to 17”, but they couldn’t get any further. Think about that: praise for cutting a THIRTY(30) point lead…to 17. And again, said with no anger or emotion, just resignation. It’s like “this is who and where we are now, folks. Oh, well. It is what it is”. -sigh-

Yet he blasted Jesse all year long in pressers
I don’t necessarily agree that he “blasted” him. He was pushing for him to be better, especially at the center spot on defense (where despite his shot blocking he still needs improvement), because Jesse has an even higher upside than most of the other guys. He wants Jesse to be the best he can be. He’s an old school coach, and that’s how he tries to motivate players. I don’t know if that works with a lot of kids anymore, but I think Jesse understands it.

At age 77, few still have the fire and determination of their younger days. It is often replaced by resignation.
Therefore, I understand JB's resignation.
I don't understand why he'd coach as a less-engaged senior citizen after his boys move on.

Are the players watching the pressers? Instead of motivating a player during a presser, isn't he supposed to be doing that during practice and the games? It seems that a press conference is a place for giving hinest accurate analysis of the game that just concluded. Placing an inordinate amount of blame on Jesse for losses was not accurate. The most accurate comment in most games would have been that he is one of our top two players and we need him to stay out of foul trouble so he can stay on the floor.

All a coach can do is get max results out of the team he has.

What we saw yesterday in 2 sports was how bad our "recruiting" has been when compared to
other programs. Boeheim and Desko, parallel universes.
