Maybe Babers looks over the waiver wire and adds a 5th year transfer at DT. Might be a lot of kids that would like an opportunity to play for a good team.
Slayton is hard to replace but Williams, Black and Ruff give us a good trio of 4th year DTs who are in the current rotation.
The bigger issues are at LB, OL and WR. We have a list of names -- every team does.
And, while Devito had a strong half against FSU, he is only 50% as a passer in his chances to date, and has posted a lot of three and outs. Need to see more before we can judge what we have. Dungey has been straw stirring the drink for 4 seasons.
We'll still have Servais, Adams, and Heckel, on the line.Losing ED and all the intangibles (experience, leadership, smarts) he brings + 4/5 of our oline will be huge loss.
Actually, I feel better about next year's defense -- the secondary returns 8 guys who have played well; the DL returns all of the 2 deep except Slayton (the only big loss on the D); and the starting LBs (Guthrie & Whitner) can be replaced by comparable talent. You have heard it said a thousand times before - quarterbacks need to get into a rhythm. Hard to do when you get 9 minutes in garbage time with 3 minutes of it running out the clock. When he got an entire half he was impressive.
I put my Orange glasses on and peered into the future. Once he gets in synch with receivers, he will be lights out.
We have 17 WR on the roster with more coming in. Typical Dino. A few will blossom.
Next year's offense is going to be special.
I think we will know everything we need to know by the end of the season.Actually, I feel better about next year's defense -- the secondary returns 8 guys who have played well; the DL returns all of the 2 deep except Slayton (the only big loss on the D); and the starting LBs (Guthrie & Whitner) can be replaced by comparable talent.
We lose multi-year starters in the OL (3 of the 5), and our best WR (Custis). The returning TEs have not proven anything to this point.
The QB, as we all know, is the most important position. Maybe DeVito needs to get into a rhythm (as you say), or get into better synch with receivers, or get a chance other than in running out the clock. These, of course, are excuses for spotty play -- other than one half of good performance against a struggling FSU team.

Funny what four games can do!There are still some small questions about TD. But he can make all the throws, has a quick release - and was good enough to split reps with a guy getting Heisman buzz. Dino knows good QB play and talent and I don’t think he’s got questions about what he can do. Think Andy Reid and Mahomes.
And I’m excited to see Chance compete with him. Bodes well for the program.
Me neither.I wouldn't sleep on chance amie competing with TD next year.
I do think black steps up and comes in around 300 next year but Slayton is tough.
TD took all the first team reps in the spring due to ED's injury rehabilitation. Dino stated that he'd compete for QB1 (like every other position) during camp. If anyone here thinks TD was close to unseating ED then you simply don't get it.There are still some small questions about TD. Tap the brakes a little, because we haven't seen much from this multitude. Cam Jordan has no catches in limited opportunities and seems to struggle to get separation; Sharod Johnson has a total of 3 catches in 5 games. The trio of Jackson, Queeley, and Hendrix has promise, but we won't see them on the field until the Spring practices. Sure, it is a good situation to have all these names --….My two cents on our WR situation next year: Jackson is going to push hard for playing time. ….Im looking at Harris to step up, not only this year, but big time next season. I still like Hendrix and don't sleep on Nazir Burnett, 2019 commit from Harrisburg. ….. (And I didn't even mention a multitude of guys that look good. Cameron Jordan, Sharod Johnson, etc.)
So, you say the rhythm thing is an excuse for spotty play and then you degrade his solid play by claiming it's against a struggling FSU team. You can't knock the guy for playing poorly in some cases if, you're going to knock him for playing well in others.Actually, I feel better about next year's defense -- the secondary returns 8 guys who have played well; the DL returns all of the 2 deep except Slayton (the only big loss on the D); and the starting LBs (Guthrie & Whitner) can be replaced by comparable talent.

TD was actually recruited for this specific offense. ED is ‘just’ a freak athlete that’s a legacy of an old regime. So, you say the rhythm thing is an excuse for spotty play and then you degrade his solid play by claiming it's against a struggling FSU team. I actually think TD is a better fit for Dino's offense than ED. I love ED and his determination and guts and intangibles, but he has a tendency to make the "keep" read too often or take off running when there is time to stay in the pocket or behind the LOS on a roll-out to let a WR get open. I think that cost us some first downs last Saturday. In the limited time we've seen TD, I was impressed with how fast he goes through his progressions and the decisiveness of his throws.
So, while ED has certainly earned his PT and is an undisputed leader on this team, I think the offense will be more efficient next year, as long as the OL is at least mediocre.
Time will tell.
I agree time will tell. QB in his Rs- season, limited opportunities so far, should get better. But sure, I can look his playing history to date square in the face (50% completion history; good half against a decent FSU team that is a tad down). He needs to be consistently good. Has he?So, you say the rhythm thing is an excuse for spotty play and then you degrade his solid play by claiming it's against a struggling FSU team. Our overall QB play has been somewhat inconsistent so far - both ED and TD, imo. I attribute that to the breaking in of new wrs this season. Hopefully, it will improve with each game.I agree time will tell. QB in his Rs- season, limited opportunities so far, should get better. You mean the young man that will have less experience in a live game than DeVito? If Aime was as lights out as you all think, he would have got some playing time already. Aime is physically talented, but that is only one aspect of the quarterback position. Reading coverages is extremely important. I will leave it at that.I wouldn't sleep on chance amie competing with TD next year.
