His shots didn't go in, he took two bad shots but the rest were good. His mechanics were good, they just didn't go in. People seem to forget it is difficult to put a ball into a small hoop from 22 feet away. Random variation for a 45% shooter is still going to naturally put up performances like this.

TOTAL: 17-33 or 51.5%

So I guess he's just not shooting well against certain good teams that help prove your point.

BTW, pull EMU out of this equation and his percentage actually goes up.

Three point shooting is a double edge sword. When you make em you're god when you don't you are a loser. The good thing about this team is that even when Cooney is off, they win. He goes 2 for 12 on another team...they lose. BTW UNC was 2-12.

But we won somewhat easily today - so im not worried about it at all. i prefer trevor to have his off games when we are up double digits the entire 2nd half.

He will certainly bounce back and he is a huge piece to our puzzle.

I only briefly scanned this thread, but most of the whining seems to come from those who think Cooney's only job is to shoot threes, and that's the end of it. Well look again. His play fits with the rest of the team flow. He doesn't look for himself first, hustles on D and for loose balls, and he's positive when talking to teammates. And anyone who can't see what else he does is a tribal drum beater, rather than a basketball fan. I'm not unhappy with his play. Period.

I'm glad that he is trying to shoot through the slump and he made some nice shots in the 2nd half. Sure I'm disappointed that he didn't shoot 30-40% but he will find it again hopefully in March.

It took 4 years before James Southerland had his Arkansas game. I have a feeling Cooney is going to have a similar type game this season. Instead of 2 for 12 he's going to go 10 for 12. He's so much better than last year. Just scoring 10 pts on an off night is still good enough for me when they win.

Amen to both points. Cooney has never been defended as actively - by athletes this good at this level - before. His pedigree is solid, he'll learn. The complainers need to back off and give him some room to grow.

I believe JB is trying to move TC over the hurdle of handling the pressure and stress. TC has a history of having stress affect his shot and JB is addressing this.

It's rare for a player to go from worst 3rd guard in a decade to better than GMac labels. Most would expect a progression. I don't think it is unreasonable to think JB might think that and be trying to help progress Cooney.

TC's role this year is as a 3 pt specialist. TC has already been platooned offensively/defensively (St Francis). And TC has sat when his shot has been off for defensive reasons (St Johns).

We've seen what SU can be when TC can hit, it is important to get him to that level in higher pressure situations.
