It's rare for a player to go from worst 3rd guard in a decade to better than GMac labels. Most would expect a progression. I don't think it is unreasonable to think JB might think that and be trying to help progress Cooney.
TC's role this year is as a 3 pt specialist. TC has already been platooned offensively/defensively (St Francis). And TC has sat when his shot has been off for defensive reasons (St Johns).
We've seen what SU can be when TC can hit, it is important to get him to that level in higher pressure situations.
First of all, those were dopey labels made by overreactionary posters. They have nothing to do with reality, and certainly nothing to do with how JB coaches the team.
Second, TC's role is starter. Not 3 point specialist--which was his role last year as a frosh. TC has NOT been platooned--he plays the vast majority of minutes. You are cherry picking data, and you are incorrect labeling him as a one dimensional shooting specialist.
Third, the distribution of minutes should tell you all you need to know about what Jim Boeheim thinks about Trevor Cooney's importance, and his role.
