Cascade Women's Division I Media Poll: Florida, Stony Brook Make Moves; Albany Enters

No. 1 Maryland headlines the Week 10 Cascade Women’s Division I Media Poll for the eighth straight week, as No. 2 Florida makes the jump to trail the Terps. The Gators are followed by No. 3 Stony Brook. At No. 3, the Seawolves make the highest ranked appearance in the Media Poll in program history.

No. 4 North Carolina and No. 5 Penn State round out the top five, as No. 8 Syracuse re-enters the top ten after a marquee ACC win over then No. 2 UNC, 13-11.

Making the leap into the top 20, No. 18 Albany enters this week’s Media Poll after downing No. 11 (then-No. 8) Cornell, 11-10.

Division I Coaches Poll for April 17, 2017

The top team in this week’s IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll is no surprise, as Maryland (15-0) swept all 20 first-place votes to lock up the number one ranking. There was a shake up in the top ten, as Syracuse (12-4) knocked off North Carolina (12-2) last week to jump five spots and land at #7. Florida (12-2) and UNC switched spots at numbers two and three, and Stony Brook and Penn State stayed put in the fourth and fifth spots. Princeton (10-2) moved up to #6, and Southern California (12-3) moved up to eighth. There was also some movement in the back half of the poll, as #14 Virginia (9-7), #15 Northwestern (8-7), # 16 James Madison (10-5), and #18 Boston College (11-5), all inched up a spot this week. Albany (9-4) and Johns Hopkins (9-5) are now receiving votes in the poll.

This week’s top twenty action starts Tuesday, when #12 Cornell visits Syracuse (#7), and continues with an Ivy clash on Wednesday as Penn (#10) welcomes #6 Princeton to campus. Penn State (#5) faces top-ranked Maryland on Thursday, and #14 Virginia plays host to Virginia Tech (#19) on Friday. The weekend’s games include #11 Notre Dame traveling to Chestnut Hill to face Boston College (#18), Princeton (#6) visiting #12 Cornell, and #3 North Carolina squaring off with #20 Duke.
