WF = trap game?

The Orange coach, in a conference call with ACC media members today, discouraged use of the phrase "trap game" to describe Wednesday's Wake contest.

"There's no such thing as a trap game for a coach. It's a media term that only has to do with people in the media," he said. "Players and coaches understand that every game is difficult, every road game is difficult.

"You only get "trapped" as you guys call it, (when) you're (favored) by 30 points maybe if you're playing a team like that," he continued. "You might get fooled a little bit that you might win. But we're not like that. We know Wake Forest is a good basketball team, No. 1. And they haven't lost at home. So there's no trap involved here. We'll be focused completely on Wake Forest and whatever happens, there will be no thought that we weren't thinking about Wake Forest."

Dig a little deeper on Wake's 12-0 record at home.

They have beaten up on patsies and played three lower-level teams in the ACC thus far (ND is 2-5, NC is 2-4, NC St. is 3-4).

You can point out our struggles against Miami - but it is clear we do not match up with them well. Even with that, we beat them by double figures Saturday on the road, and could have probably won by more if we hadn't had the string of turnovers toward the end of the first half.

Wake shoots 32.9% from three-point range. Their top 3-pt. shooter played his first three years at Robert Morris and was never an all-league player in the Northeast Conference. That's all I need to know.

Thanks for the curse, lol. Now he's going to shoot 50% - 60% from deep. ;)

Wake Forest is a very tough team to beat with or without a visit from Duke on the horizon. Good news is Boeheim does think that WF knocked off Duke earlier this week. But Wake Forest hasn't lost a home game yet this year and with the best team in the ACC paying a visit for the first time as an official member of their conference, don't expect a shortage of fans. So sure you could call it a trap game but regardless it's a very tough game. Just ask Larranaga who was blown out as the number 2 team in Winston-salem just last year to a much less talented Wake team.

I know but how many times have we seen a team that shoots 30% from behind the arc have a record setting day bombing 3's against us? I've learned to ignore those stats. Any given game anything can happen.

Every road game is tough and Wake is undefeated at home but Wake has played one tourney caliber team at home, UNC (and borderline tourney team at that) and they beat them. Wake has lost to every other tourney team they have played, though those were all on the road or neutral court.
