What are Babers' strengths as a HC?

I can't help but think that Dave Clawson built the Bowling Green program (10–3) that Dino enjoyed the benefit of in his 2 years there.
If we had gone the recruiter route, who knows what kind of goofy stuff we'd be trying to do. Not disagreeing with you but the big unknown about Babers has not gone our way. I'm sure the next coach will be joe recruiter and then we'll have to worry if they know how to run a team or know what to do on offense. murphy's law around here

He runs a basically clean program and is respected by other ACC programs and their fans.

Cuse is probably the toughest place to recruit in the ACC (or tied with BC) , and we've gotten to the point where we have good depth on defense for sure and at least some on the OL, which isn't and will never be great here minus a Marrone type being there. We have NFL guys now on both sides of the ball that weren't slam dunk recruits at first.

And we lost no one that mattered in the offseason with other teams trying to poach our guys. So he's willing to play ball.

Why is wake easier to recruit at then us?

He's had multiple great wins and didn't have enough depth to have multiple great seasons

That too. Depth is a lot better, we replaced Garrett Williams with an Ivy League guy and that dude can play.

Better football in the south?
In the South they start ORGANIZED football in the 5th grade. I know because I played it. That was back in the 50"s. In the 60's, the President insisted I enjoy a summer of exercise and sunshine in Fayetteville NC. I have been eternally grateful. While I was there, NC was playing the annual high school all star game with VA. The Fayetteville had two weeks of coverage of the game including bios of every player in a special five page supplement.

I lived in Williamsport PA, for a few years. The Williamsport TV station does an hour of high school football coverage every Friday in the fall.

This thread is crap. His team is depleted and the offense was designed around GS . Get a grip !
is partially true but play calling has been awful, did not play the back up in games to the extent needed --witness wagner for one, pitch back from a ha; yard out seriously?, clock management, sloooow to adjust to situations. well dropped passes ??? lack of ol play of late may speak to your comment --- it all is not crap imho

They had that same base in the 90s though….we need to recruit better in the northeast.
That’s why I was kind of mystified to hear that we’d offer Dan Conley’s kid at FM if we were sure he’d accept. That’s kind of a** backwards if you ask me, not least because he’s a (very) talented legacy and we toss out offers like candy.

That was 30 years ago.
Right. Let’s get back to it? How many good programs are there in the northeast? Why can’t we get back to recruiting well within a 5-6 hour radius?

because parents don’t want their kids to play football. Too dangerous. Create a map of where the top 300 recruits come from.

(And those really good in the northeast go to prep schools…)

Personally I don't care if other programs and fans respect us. That also means they have no fear of us.

It's a general acknowledgement that we run a good program and have good coaches. If we had a clown program they'd say so.

Why do we collapse EVERY year in October/November….

That needs to be fixed. That’s a substantial problem and Dino needs to find a way to fix it

This season he can’t just fire the fall guy….Dino is now the fall guy if things aren’t successful next season.

He has bought himself the 2023 season but his seat will be extremely hot if it goes off the rails

Many will balk at this but I do think he helps with both recruiting and retention. Our recruiting issues are providential and ultimately due to a geographical issue imo. It will take time to overcome that, but it is possible as PSU (gross) is the obvious example.

Every game wasn't televised (more reason for good kids to stay withing driving distance), psu was down, put and bc were disasters, Rutgers and temple utterly worthless, facilities arms race wasn't as bad

Everything lined up in the nineties

I tried a quick count of the 22 who started the season, assuming 6 hours is Canada, Detroit, and the DC burbs. We had 12 kids inside that circle, and just about all of it was 5 to 6 plus hour drive. We accept that as normal but it's pretty unusual.

The ACC has back loaded us with road games every year. We don't play many home games. Seems like every season we have a September home ACC game which leaves us with road games at the end. If you look back we usually have 2 home games after October 15th. That is a month and a half.

2022 3 of 4 on road overall, but 4 of 5 ACC games on the road to end. Only 1 ACC home game after October 15th.

2021 2 of 3 on the road. Only 2 home games after October 15th.

2019 2 of 3 on the road. Only 2 home games after October 18th.

2018 2 of 3 on the road plus ND at Yankee Stadium. Only 1 home game after October 27th.

2017 2 of 3 at home but 3 of 5 on the road to end including 2 trips in 3 weeks to Fla. Only 2 home games after October 13th.

2016 2 of 3 at home but 3 of 5 on the road to end. Only 2 home games after October 15th.

Why is wake easier to recruit at then us?

Wake has lost two games in a row to teams that we beat. Now would we beat them if we played them this week, I don't know, but I'm not sure why Wake is your go to example.

Saturday was painful to watch. But this 5 game stretch was always thought to be the hardest of the season. When we were 5-0 there were people here concerned that we would end up 5-6 and playing BC for bowl eligibility.

I was reading the A&M board saturday afternoon and even they are complaining about injuries. Imagine having their talent and depth and injuries still affect them. They affect us exponentially more. FSU is playing great now, but they're not work beaters. Wake is falling apart worse than we are because at least our defense is still solid. Beat Wake and BC and 8-4 is a great year that every single person here would have signed up for.

True, but I still look at that list and see opportunity….if we can get to where we can out coach and play better football than those schools. Whatever advantages that some of them have over us are not insurmountable, and we’ve got some of our own advantages over some of those schools IMO.(college town vs. pro town/area being one….nobody cares about BC, Temple, or Rutgers and even Pitt has a soulless, half empty stadium for most games.

So we’re already talking about next season?

We’re bowl eligible and could still end the season 7-5 or even 9-3.

We’ve played one game this year in Nov starting our 3rd string QB so I wouldn’t say that is a collapse just yet either
