What happens if Frazier (and Gross) muck this up?

After reading his recent comments about bowl eligibility and his ineptness at his last job, what happens if Frazier (and Gross) muck this up and we don't go bowling? After reading that, my confidence level that we go bowling just dropped big time. Both would need to be fired in my opinion.

Are individual schools allowed to cut their own bowl deals, or does everything have to go through the ACC?

Gotta think it goes through the conference. They're the ones with the 'official' connections.

I would think the ACC would do everything possible to get every bowl eligible team into one.

They aren't gonna muck up a bowl game and I doubt Frazier has anything to do with a bowl. The ACC will have more control than we will and Gross is fine with the back room dealing game.

Don't set up a straw man.

Dr Gross let Syracuse be a bystander??

We're guilty of being bowl eligible.

That's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous.

Impressive reference, if you pulled that from the top of your head.

There's always a possibility we will not make a bowl, I looked over on the Pitt board and they are also worried that they won't make one. I just don't understand how we dragged Gross in this, and then to even go further and suggest he should be fired if we don't make one, just amazing.

SU will go to a bowl because Swofford and the ACC/ESPN will make it happen. However, I am with chakka in not feeling confident in the SUAD to be pushing for the best option. SU should be pushing the issue, not sitting in the back waiting for the ACC to decide where to send the team.

I'm not sure they have the authority to negotiate for bowls. Back channels, maybe. But I'm sure they will communicate with SU as to the possibilities.

The power 5 conferences have 43 eligible teams, plus 1 with Notre Dame, and 42 spots counting the championship game, not counting the 3 at large BCS games. The pinstripe doesn't have a big 12 team Notre Dame might end up there, San Diego Country is supposed to be Army - MWC, expect all 5 power conferences to make sure their teams are in.

The issue is that SU is more than likely going to end up in a non ACC bowl game. Thus, it's important that SU is working hard to lock into a slot (the earlier, the better) instead of sitting back and waiting. The ACC is going to rightfully focus on the conference tie-ins first, so it shouldn't be left to them.

I also know that last year, the Yankees reached out to SU before they had 6 wins (so before the Missouri game) to say that the Pinstripe Bowl was willing to take a 5-7 Cuse team if it had the opportunity.

You and Chakka are quite a pair. There is no way the Pinstripe could have taken a 5-7 SU team last year, especially since the alternative to a 6-6 SU for the Pinstripe was Pitt, the arch-rival of the Eers, the team that was locked in to being the Big12 rep last year.

Cheers,
Neil

I really do not understand the original post here. Herm Frazier said all the correct things in this article -- with emphasis on the fact that it is the ACC that is arranging the ACC bowl representation, not the individual schools. http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootb...acuse_becomes_bowl_eligible.html#incart_river

A team (I forgot who) with a better record last year tried to hold out for a better bowl and got axed from going to any bowl. Scheduling at SU for football has not been good even last year we were the last ones to finalize in the ACC - and Mr Frazier has had problems in his past with scheduling at other universities as pointed out on this board. Maybe it is best to leave it to the ACC in this case but I hope Dr Gross takes the lead on this one and makes sure it happens - for the kids sake if nothing else.

So if we don't go to a bowl I guess your saying it's no ones fault?

If we don't get a bowl game, you blame the program. Pitt and Penn St games were right there. 7-5 gets you in no problem.

In the last week we've had people asking how long until we could fire HCSS, complaining about the win yesterday, and speculating that we should fire people if we don't get into a bowl game. After the last week I'm unsure if anyone can ever post something so ill thought out and foolish that it would surprise me anymore.

My issue too is that we are 4-4 in conference making us either 7 or 8 ranked in the ACC - shouldn't we get the tie-in? Why would we give up our rank in the ACC.

If we don't go to a bowl it also shows how over scheduling bigger BCS teams in the OOC can muck up your chances in going to a bowl - again leading back to scheduling problems with SUAD.

Agree with this point. We should get an ACC Bowl since we finished tied for 3rd in the Atlantic, beating both BC and Maryland.

I said that the Yankees reached out when SU was 5-5 to say that if they could, they would take a 5-7 Syracuse team. This is true. I realize that a lot had to happen for them to do it, but the fact remains that the Yankees made the outreach in November to make SU aware of their intentions.

I am not calling for anyone to be fired, or complaining for the sake of complaining. Shafer and the players deserve 100% support from SU to land in the best bowl game possible.

I won't speak for Chakka (or others), but if you look at our posts, it's about making the football program stronger. As a fan of the program, this is important to me, as I am sure it is important to all of us here.

You realize, don't you, that no matter what the Yankees said, we wouldn't be eligible at 5-7 unless EVERY other 6-6 (and better) team had been given a bowl slot first?
