What happens if Frazier (and Gross) muck this up?

You realize, don't you, that no matter what the Yankees said, we wouldn't be eligible at 5-7 unless EVERY other 6-6 (and better) team had been given a bowl slot first?

Yep, and if they ever get to the 5-7 teams, I believe they must go in APR order.

Cheers,
Neil

Yes, I realize this. My point is that the bowls are working early to get schools that make sense for them. As I said, the Yankees made this call before the Missouri game and it shows how much they wanted SU.

A team (I forgot who) with a better record last year tried to hold out for a better bowl and got axed from going to any bowl.

On Friday, November 30, Louisiana Tech was invited to play in the Independence Bowl but asked for more time as they were in negotiations with the Liberty Bowl and Heart of Dallas Bowl.[9] Louisiana Tech athletic director Bruce Van De Velde and WAC commissioner Jeff Hurd both claimed that on Saturday, December 1, the Liberty Bowl executive director Steve Ehrhart guaranteed the Bulldogs a bowl invite.[10][11] After the Independence Bowl's deadline for Louisiana Tech to accept their invitation passed, the Independence Bowl selected the MAC's Ohio (8-4) instead. On Sunday, December 2, the Liberty Bowl extended their remaining bid to Iowa State (6-6) instead of Louisiana Tech (9-3). The Bulldogs did not end up playing in any bowl game despite boasting the nation's top scoring offense.[12]

So? The Orange Bowl could really want us. Doesn't make us eligible for it.

Scheduling at SU for football has not been good even last year we were the last ones to finalize in the ACC - and Mr Frazier has had problems in his past with scheduling at other universities as pointed out on this board. Maybe it is best to leave it to the ACC in this case but I hope Dr Gross takes the lead on this one and makes sure it happens - for the kids sake if nothing else. So if we don't go to a bowl I guess your saying it's no ones fault?

Frazier and regular season scheduling has nothing to do with bowls. Here is the list of people who have any input at all on the bowl situation.

ACC
Gross

And in that order.

After reading his recent comments about bowl eligibility and his ineptness at his last job, what happens if Frazier (and Gross) muck this up and we don't go bowling? After reading that, my confidence level that we go bowling just dropped big time. Both would need to be fired in my opinion.

By my count even if we do not get an ACC tied bowl and Clemson does NOT get the Sugar Bowl bid there are six open slots (seven if Rutgers loses) and other than Cuse 3 teams from BCS conferences eligible. Notre Dame makes four. That means all four of those schools (Washington State the weakest) PLUS two from other conferences (Toledo, Ohio and Arkansas State the only teams with better than 6-6 records) would need to receive bids to leave us out.

Unfortunately that is exactly what Phil Steele projects this morning.

Wasn't hard to follow. In 2 of your posts, including the one I quoted, you expressed your concern with Frazier, scheduling, and a bowl. You even said you hope he doesn't muck it up.

Agree with this point. We should get an ACC Bowl since we finished tied for 3rd in the Atlantic, beating both BC and Maryland.

Cheers,
Neil

You also have to consider that even though we may not get a bowl that is tied to the ACC THIS YEAR, we may get a bowl that the ACC will have future tie ins with. The Heart of Dallas Bowl could be a landing spot. Won't the ACC have a tie in there next season? I am sure a bowl that is about to enter a deal with the ACC will be more then willing to take an ACC school.

Phill Steele. I don;'t know what it is but he has had something out for us for a long time.

On another note I hope people look at the bowl payouts for these bowls. People need to stop complaining about the Pinstripe Bowl. They have one of the highest payouts for any of the lower level bowls. It is working it's way up the chain, and has some good bowl tie ins going forward

Phil Steele is a nice guy and tremendously knowledgeable. That being said, he has missed the boat on SU BADLY in last couple years. So, if he says no bowl, it literally means we WILL go bowling. So great news!

Phil Steele has Rutgers playing ND in the Pinstripe - please don't tell me a Rutgers is in and SU is out? So does it come down to whether RU wins or loses next week to USF that determines our fate? The horror...

I still think Syracuse would get an invite to the Heart of Dallas bowl ahead of Washington St. The ACC is about to enter a bowl tie-in agreement with that bowl next season vs an SEC school. Why would the HoD people help the PAC12 out ahead of the ACC? Makes no sense

You're worried about Gross behind the scenes? Not sure how to tell you this: don't worry about Gross' role in all this.

Phil also has Ohio and Toledo filling at large spots before Syracuse. He either forgot SU is bowl eligible or is a moron. Maybe both. There is no way a MAC school is going to beat out Syracuse for an at large spot in a bowl unless the game is being played in Ohio.

No bowl is going to take a school for a bowl, over a power 5 eligible school, if they plan on being in business for very many years.

The ACC deal is maybe all the more reason to invite WSU. What if they wind up with Syracuse two years in a row? WSU is a good story too with the Leach/Texas Tech angle.

Well considering the Pinstripe has a contract with the AAC and that rutgirls is in the AAC and if they become bowl eligible then yea, a rutgirls could be in.

I think he also had ECU and Washington St ahead of us.

I guess that's true, but I would assume they would worry about that next year. They just reached a working agreement with the ACC, why would they bypass them for a conference they have no alliance with? I am sure there are relationships there that would get an ACC school in first. Plus I can't see many Texas Tech fans going just to see him coach another school. just my opinion

The ACC splits bowl revenues evenly among league schools (less expenses). So while there is an incentive to secure bowl slots for as many conference schools as possible (which perhaps includes using their leverage in Dallas), the bowl payout has little direct financial impact on the ACC team playing in it.

I did not know that. That includes BCS bowls?
