Everyone here is excited about the developments over the past week which got me thinking about our future as a program. Can Babers with his improved staff of recruiters and exciting brand of football make us a top 15 team again on a consistent basis? What is the realistic time frame for Syracuse football to be a dominant team in the East? I'm curious what you all think about this whether we are now in a position to be a top 25 team in the next 3-5 years or could we possibly be a top 5-10 team again like the early 90's? Discuss.

A top ten ranking by year four
A top 25 ranking by year three, maybe top 15
I can see win totals for the next 4 years as follows:
7
5
8
9

Sky is the limit. I mean that literally.

In order to excel, we needed to differentiate from our northeast football brethren. Check. We'll have a unique identify from Pitt, BC, uconn, and indeed a unique identity in the conference.

We got with the times in terms of modern collegiate offense. Check. Babers has a proven system that has enabled him to excel at two other stops along the path. He'll get the ship righted quickly.

Lastly, having a fun offense will make SU an attractive place to play for recruits who want to play an exciting brand of football.

I'm not suggesting that we're going to be competing for national championships, but I believe that this coach / system can get us to 9+ wins consistently once the roster is optimized, and get us ready to score a lot more points--even next year.

Babers was the right guy for the job. In a Dome... his offense could be downright scary.

Here's how I'm looking at the potential:

In the 80s, Syracuse basketball started to establish itself and become a national power behind an exciting, up and down, alley oop style of play.

The Dino Babers offense could, potentially, give a similar kind of feel to our football program. Not saying "national power" but certainly create a similar kind of buzz.

I think any staff in place at a P5 program has the ability to reach the top goals in their profession.

I was born in 1993, so as you all know I have not seen much good football since I have been old enough to understand what is going on. I have been excited every time we get a new guy and it never seems to get to where we all think it can. I'm excited once again and hope this time it translates to victories. It's harder when you didn't get to experience the glory years. All I have known is mediocre Cuse football. With that being said, this hire feels so much different than any hire I can remember.

Definitely lofty for this staff, but, not unreasonable around here. We flirted with that type of ranking for the majority of the 90's.

It CAN be done...

Plus - when Art Briles took over Baylor, they were 3-9 the previous season. They won 10 games in the fourth year under Briles and were ranked 13th in the nation. Since Dino was along for the ride and will be installing the same offense, that seems like a fair ceiling to set.

"Special bowl games" are our ceiling.

Hard to envision us as ACC champs but I can see us shocking the world with a big one-time upset over Florida State or Clemson 4 years from now if we are playing in a sold out dome.

Not sure. I think it is higher than SS's though and that's coming from someone who truly believes with a little more time he could have been successful here.

Before I set goals I need to see the defense and how it plays. I think we have a good feel of what our offensive will look like and what it could be. Talking top 5 in NCAA. Our results record wise will be related to how good our defense is. But with our offense I expect no less than 6 win every year. Defense will have good years and bad years. When the defense is great I expect to be a 9-10 win team.
