Completely honest question as I really have no idea.

Okkkkk shoot...

I also have no idea, but I would have to believe the first check went primarily to any existing debt, of which if you believe some insiders on this board, we have quite a bit of. I would love to see as we entrench ourselves more into the ACC and their yearly payouts, SU develop out their AD, adding nutritionists, trainers, support staff, etc. That is where we can really add value. Constant facility upgrades and high end coaching salaries are a given.

It goes to the university. It could be used for anything (scholarships, buildings, libraries, any school expense). Money is fungible.

Interesting, does it go to the general fund and then it get reallocated back to the athletic department?

I remember having a class in Eggars and seeing a shiny little "This was paid for by the 1993 Fiesta Bowl" placard. I always thought that was a pretty fungible usage of the money.

im sure part of went to American conference to pay 7.5million early exit

But why on earth is on not used for only sports, and more importantly, the sports that actually brought in that money? That's the reason the added money is there in the first place.

Because we're one big happy family.

If Daddy gets a pay raise, it doesn't mean that he can blow the extra money on a trip to Vegas with his frat buddies. It means that little Timmy can get braces, Suzy can get piano lessons, and Mommy gets new shoes. Lots of shoes. :D

not sure, but bayside snapped this picture of gross' hotel room when he left the door open yesterday...

It has been. Football spending has increased substantially, at least according to the report to the Dept of Education.

Between 2004 and 2009 Expenses held steady at around $15M. There was a bump in 2008 to $18M, but my guess is that was tied to buyouts and other one time expenses.

Starting in 2010 spending on Football has risen steadily.

2010 $16.4, 2011 $21.7, 2012 $22.7, 2013 $23.6.

Revenues followed the same pattern but have really jumped since 2009. In 2008 revenues fell $900K short of expenses.

Since then reported revenues have been:

2010 $18.8, 2011 $28.7, 2012 $33.2, 2013 $38.5

2012 was the first Met Life game, 2013, first ACC distribution.

Go, so in 2013 we spent 23.6 mil and made 38.5 mil? Does the 15 mil difference go to Olympic sports?

I have posted exactly this question in a number of different threads over recent months and I am yet to get a clear answer. We are receiving an extra 15-20 million more in revenue than we were receiving prior to our ACC contract, AND the extra 5 million from playing in the Medowlands (which still should net us 2-3 million every time we play there). We should have some significant funds left in the coffers. Some questions to ask are:
Have we added any additional sports teams which require scholorships which = added expenses?
How much is the Debt service anually on the new Football Practice facility and upgrades to Manley?

Outside of those potential costs, there still should be a very significant amount of funds available. Hey, I guess we can alwasy start saving for a new Dome roof

I'm sure it goes to the university, goes to pay off debt, and goes to increased budgets for all sports. Maybe additional staff too.

The money shoukdnt go to increased budgets for all sports. At least 80% should go to football.

Here the summary for 2013

Report shows that football and basketball combined was plus $31M. After covering expenses not picked up by revenues for the other sports SU is showing $15.6M in excess revenue this year.

No idea how the school used that money, but whatever they did it went to things not on the athletic department books.

One thing to take away is that most of major HC compensation is off the books.

I didn't say equally. And why shouldn't every sport benefit?

Spending is about to go up big time with the new Autonomy ruling, every Football and Basketball player and possibly scholarship athlete will begin getting stipends and guaranteed scholarships for 4 years. I wonder how the academic side is going to react to that when kids get hurt and can't play but are still guaranteed schooling for free.

Because supposedly the scholarships count toward the athletic budget at private schools for cost of attendance.

Going to get interesting...

I would be very interested to see how the ACC would feel if they found out these funds designated for athletics were going somewhere else while the Syracuse football program is floundering, expecially since the main revenue driver for the ACC contract is football. My guess is that they would not be too happy.

I think this also goes to show that we could easily afford a big time football coach. We could very easily offer 3 times the salary of our current head coach and staff and still have $8-10 million in excess revenue. A lot more money should, and needs, to be spend on the football program. Period.
