Agree with a lot of this. I've heard different opinions, but I think JB was thinking of 2 more seasons after this one "to leave the program in good shape." Even then, I've always thought that this will not end well and that he will eventually need to be nudged out behind the scenes while offering him a way to step aside with dignity publically. No matter what Boeheim says, Wildhack and the BOT know it’s time to cut ties. Boeheim’s never gonna wanna leave and it was always going to be an ugly ending cause that’s the type of guy Boeheim is to be honest. But trust me when I tell you Wildhack is WELL AWARE of the feelings of the fan base, boosters, some promenent former players and the national attention on JB. Also don’t think the comments he made a few weeks back didn’t get swept under the rug too. I think Boeheim knows it’s his last even though he doesn’t want it to be
JB unwittingly created that scenario with the Thamel interview. “This is an awful place we’re in in college basketball” Wake Forest bought a team. Miami bought a team. … It’s like, ‘Really, this is where we are?’ That’s really where we are, and it’s only going to get worse.” “That’s the reason they (K and Jay Wright) got out,” Boeheim said. “The transfer portal and everything is nuts. It really is. …We didn’t take [many] transfer portal guys. If we did do it and did whatever we had to do, I wouldn’t feel that good about that. These other [coaches], it doesn’t bother them.”
He can "retire" because of the awful state of college basketball and not because he can longer be successful or was forced to step down.
