Who do we really care if they are back next year?

Didn't move him along he just was honest with Cuffe and told him he'd like him to stay but his minutes probably were not going to increase the coming season
????

He played like 3 minutes total before blowing out his knee after redshirting. Telling him after that he was never going to play is the definition of moving them on

Westerly blew his knee out.. you sure cuffe did? I could of sworn he played in big 12 tourney

I do not want any of them back, although I do Petar in that he appears to have actually been coached at some point in the past and listened and learned how to play bball

To be honest I don't care if everyone on the team leaves if Red leaves with them. If that is what it takes then clean house.

I would love to see Donnie with a real coach at Syracuse.
This is where I'm at too. Well said.

Donnie Petar JJ Choppa
Yep, that's exactly who I'd keep. Add in the incoming freshman, or at least three of them. The jury is out on Womack. Hopefully the right new coach could energize the donors and bring in some portal talent.

Donnie
Moore
JJ

Petar

That's my list. I could probably change it several times. Donnie is easily #1 imo.

Donnie is a first round pick this spring on potential alone.

Don't care if anyone else is back. Don't think most of them make basketball teams better. Moore the only that gives me pause.

Are you referring to the Donnie Freeman that is #70 on the ESPN Big Board?

Just Freeman. Has potential but unclear if it will ever materialize. Everyone else can be exited
Sad that he's our top recruit in decades and he's being wasted.

Cuffe would have been a perfect guy for JB to coach. Bench player who can come in and provide a spark, play defense hard and get some effort points/rebounds/free throws. Boeheim would have kept the bad 3’s in check with the quick hook. But Autry is all over the place. Didn’t play him at all when he should have and now playing him a bit too much. I think Cuffe does have a valuable role but Autry seems clueless as to what it is.

Red has no clue when to give a player the hook and when to put him back in. He has zero feel for the game. Zip.

Not worth my time if there isn’t massive changes. I have holy cross basketball if I want to downshift expectations and it’s 54 minutes away
Expectations is the key word.

As big of an SU football fan as I am, I don’t expect playoffs and titles. We’re always going to be up against massive challenges in that sport.

But hoops? I expect us to be a title contender. Certainly a perennial tourney team. We have the brand, the fan base, the facilities, the location, etc.

My worry is that the administration doesn’t have that same expectation. That we’ve become far too comfortable being a bubble team at best. It’s galling to live in CT and see what UConn aspires to and compare that to the last decade of SU hoops.

SU basketball needs an intervention. Titles. That’s our goal. Lower expectations aren’t acceptable.

If we’re not pursuing that, then I have Sacred Heart University 5 minutes down the street. I already have hockey season tickets for them. I could get hoops too.

Part of it is too, if the goal is to be a tournament team every year, it doesn't work if the goal is to be a tournament team every year. Meaning, the teams with the result of making the tournament every year are there because their goal is to win the title.

That's always been part of JB's decline. He got content realizing the zone was a tough matchup in the tournament. All he needed to do was get in and see what happens.

But with that mindset, it's a lot harder to just get picked for the tournament.

So the results decline.

Yep. JB had quite the change of heart. He went from “the regular season shows how good a team is, the tourney is a crapshoot” to “all that matters is the tourney”.

I wonder why that was? ;)

Was just about to type that this quote drove me crazy when he said that. Obviously we’re at a point now that we’ll take success in one or the other. But you usually have to have success in the regular season to even guarantee a tournament bid. Which when he said that he was referring to a run that we made that wasn’t even a guaranteed opportunity based on the regular season.

It was a transparent ploy by Boeheim to excuse his regular season mediocrity.

Fair or not, often times the perception of a program is tied to its tourney success. However, the *health* of a program is inextricably linked to its regular season success.

UVA failed often as a high seed in the tourney. But the fact they were so often a high seed proved that they were an extremely healthy program.

SU hasn’t been a healthy program for a decade now. 2014 was the last time. Ever since it’s been bubbles or worse.

So many people handwaved that away as due to probation or early entries. But there was a program rot underneath it all that wasn’t addressed. And now we’re dealing with the consequence of that neglect.

And we don't have to speculate that this was his mindset because he said it himself. Different versions of "the regular season doesn't matter" because you just need to make the tournament.

And it did get annoying how some of his diehard supporters on the board picked up that line of thinking to make the argument that the ship wasn't sinking. Yes there are sometimes lower seeds that make runs, but the stats still show that you're in much better shape to do so as a higher seed. And you're totally SOL if you don't even make the tourney of course.
