Who do you want as the new OC?

What kind of logic is this? They’re not going to fire Dino to elevate a coordinator he hired. If the coordinator is good, then Dino stays because he’s likely winning.

Half the board yesterday came away thinking White was the coach in waiting. DB’s job isn’t safe even if the offense improves, still has to win games. Makes no sense to bring in some of the names mentioned, that were recently former HC’s and basically audition for your job if things don’t go well next year. Instead you hire a guy like Gilbert that nobody will hire as a HC. Coordinators get moved to HC position all the time, even if it’s temporary. Remember Shafer, even though the circumstances were different. This stuff happens every year. Try to follow along.

I was looking at him as well. KC Keeler has also brought Phil Longo and Tim Cramsey through as OC’s. Not a bad track record especially since they went 10-0 last season and 10-0 this season.
Kirk Ciarrocca (mentioned in another post) was OC under KC Keeler at Delaware for 6 years, including Joe Flacco's tenure with the Blue Hens.

Listening to the Locked On Syracuse podcast on the drive to work and they made a great point. If next year is bowl or bust for Dino, you have to sell an OC on potentially a one-year contract and that he could be gone if Dino loses his job next year. Going to be a tough thing to sell

Half the board is delusional. Dino will try to hire the best candidate to win games.

yep, hence the Mitch Browning references by some posters...

dont tell me there isnt some dynamic OC down in the lower levels who wouldnt want to take a shot at this.. and it isnt about changing the offense.. its about connecting the plays and improving the execution.. The oline to a pretty good leap in one year if it can take another, especially in the pass blocking things will look less bleak. trying to fit to FR into the oline is not something we could expect to work and then we he 3-4 injuries again on top of it.

That's why it will either be some old hand trying to resurrect his career or someone in an equally dismal situation looking for a fresh start and more money.

His name was previously mentioned in this thread, Ryan Carty OC for Sam Houston State.
He was QB for Delaware and OC for New Hampshire so he has East Coast experience.

Ryan Carty joined the Bearkats for 2018 as the offensive coordinator after spending the previous 11 seasons on the New Hampshire coaching staff, including six years as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.

He helped lead the Bearkats to the 2020 FCS national championship and was not only named the FCS Coordinator of the Year by FootballScoop.com, but was also named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's "Top 40 Coaches Under 40" list following the year.

Carty was instrumental that season in helping quarterback Eric Schmid earn Southland Conference Player of the Year honors on his way to leading the nation in total passing yards. As a unit, the Kats ranked 13th in the nation in total and passing offense, while coming in ninth in scoring offense with an average of 37.5 points per game.

In his first year at the helm of the Bearkat offense he took over a revamped offense and helped SHSU average 30.0 points per game in 2018, while tutoring redshirt freshman quarterback Ty Brock, who passed for 2,417 yards and 15 touchdowns in his first year on the field for the Kats.

A year later, SHSU averaged 31.9 points per game despite injuries forcing the Kats to utilize five different quarterbacks throughout the season. Carty's tutelage helped Eric Schmid set an SLC single-game high for 2019 when he threw for 531 yards in a win over defending league champion UIW, and he would eventually see four offensive players earn all-SLC honors at season's end, including second team running back Donovan Williams.

In 2016, the New Hampshire offense ranked third in the CAA in scoring (28.5 points per game) as well as third in total offense (379.2 yards/game). The Wildcat’s offense was in high gear for its first round game vs. Lehigh, as the ‘Cats scored 64 points and amassed 637 total yards, including 364 rushing yards. Senior RB Dalton Crossan had a year for the record books with 233 carries for 1,281 yards; those numbers rank No. 10 and No. 6 on the respective single-season list of UNH superlatives; Crossan finished with 2,617 career rushing yards, which is No. 8 all time.

Jake brought up Sean Lewis in another thread. It looks like Lewis makes $450k per. We could double that. He seemed to be more creative and aggressive and was good recruiting. He called the offense in our bowl season that everyone liked. How about bringing him back?
I’d take Lewis - but for the love of god why does everyone keep thinking Lewis was here in 2018 when it’s been corrected multiple times.

The best OC in the world won't be able to fully install their O by the start of next season. They wouldn't likely hit their stride until 1/3 of a season is gone. On top of that you need to find time to develop a QB which takes time. At best that happens 2/3 of the way through the season. So as a new OC year 1 is year to build for year 2. The problem is year 2 isn't likely to ever happen. So why go?

The new OC must work with Coach Schmidt which will help some and improvement is expected for next year not total turn around. With a quality OC and QB developer noticeable improvement will be seen in year 1; look at Mississippi.

That’s why you can probably count out any of these air raid or spread coordinators.

We need a guy who can come in and build an offense around our strengths. Keep the running game strong but also look to add to the passing game. A good QB guy who can keep it simple and build up Shrader while developing our backups.

I would say a guy who has done it before and knows what they are doing. Not a young hotshot looking to bounce around and make their marks.

Ryan Carty is not that young; I’m not saying he should be the pick. I am saying that with him lots of the need to boxes are checked, as an example.

He was part of Butch Davis' FIU staff that was let go.

He's moved around a lot lately. One year in Syracuse won't make a difference.

Has time already with Shrader from Mississippi State and it will be interesting now that Moorehead is an HC again will he bring him back. I also like what I read about Willy Korn from Coastal Carolina.
