Ok he played a few good snaps but he was all world as a TE and we really could use him. Big fast good hands sure we needed some bodies but why not leave a talent like Thompson on O? Looks like anothe questionable move

why can't he play both ways? at least limited reps on offense for double TE sets. he already has limited DE reps on a rotation. no reason he can't do both. think outside the box. i do think he will wind up being a solid DE who can rush the passer.

I thought it was due to the need for depth at DE and the fact that he's capable of transitioning successfully to DE.

The guy may end up being a good DE but at this point he is a very good TE and we need one. The kid from Chicago did well and Sugar Bear is head and shoulders beyond him. With Ash in the slot and Bear at TE we would have two solid targets and two very difficult match ups. Now with Becket out i hope he gets a few snaps on the O side

Dude 2 weeks ago you were in love with Shafer... Now you are questioning every move dude has made. My god... It's two games and we lost our best 4 players on offense, it wasn't going to be seamless regardless of how much man love people were sending his way

I am in love with Shafer and feel as if he was a great choice and will end up being a really good long term coach for us. Shafer is not my issue. My issue is some of the decisions he and the staff have made. You can be behind a coach and believe that he is going to be good without agreeing with every move he has made. At the time i agree with the move. Now that it is apparant that we need some safe options for our QB given we are dismal on the mid range passing game and given the fact that Becket is hurt it might be wise to consider giving him some reps at TE. The way i put the question is wrong. I should have asked. Is it time to give Sugar Bear some run on O?

Thompson is the third DE and looks good. Kendall Moore looked surprisingly quick and agile for a big man. This is a nonissue.
Thanks for clarifying that i feel better

Thompson has good speed and athleticism for a DE. And I bet TE is not as important in the new offensive scheme. A matter of getting your best athletes on the field in some capacity. I think Thompson ends up being a stud at DE.

Could be but if we cant throw the ball more than 20 yards the TE's become pretty important. I thought that Bear would have caused some major match up issues especially teamed with Ash

His injury may have contributed to his move. I'd assume he's less likely to be re-injured playing DE than TE.

Officially at the crazy part of a two game skid: questioning every coaching move.

"Imagine Ashton throwing to Thompson. Unstoppable!"
Ashton takes the snap he avoids the pressure providing time for Sugar Bear to break free and hits him in stride with a 30 yard strike down the seam for Ash 7th throwing touchdown of the game to go with his 3 rushing TD's 10 extra points and one punt return for a score.

Thank god the players are tougher than a lot of the fans here. A lot of hanging heads, criticizing, and whining. Not attractive.

I think it was a great move. I look at it like this. Signing a 4 star TE is exciting, but signing a 4 star defensive end? We'd be delirious, right?

Well, boom. 4 star DE.

That's what I thought as well along with the lack of depth at DE.

He also is growing out of the TE position. He's already around 270, and could end up around 285 when all is said and done.

Is it possible he put on weight to switch to DE?

Probably the opposite. Because of his hip injury, he couldn't work out ... which caused his weight gain ... which resulted in him being moved to DE.
