Name any coach in any sport in the history of Syracuse University Athletics that has been fired after two years.
I enjoy your posts and your point is taken. But Gerg should have been fired in year 2 and not firing him was a colossal mistake. We still haven’t fully recovered from the Gerg era. P’s record seems like a lifetime ago and we still aren’t back at the Coach P orange standard and it’s been 20 years. The farther we get from the Boeheim glory days standard because of patience and contracts, the harder it’s going to be to return there someday. Call me harsh I don’t care but I’ve seen what I need to from Red and am confident that he is not the answer.

What will be the attitude if he wins in year 3 though? Everyone gonna praise JW for not firing him? General question for the board..
I have felt that Red is the guy one time and that was after the UNC win. For a players coach his team doesn’t play hard or inspired. The defense has been laughably unorganized, the offense has some more structure this year but is still far from effective. I do not believe we can get enough talent to hide his coaching problems. I hope I’m wrong but I am so far out on the Autry era.

IMO it will feel a lot like the Dino situation to me. I have seen nothing from a coaching perspective, talent evaluation perspective, and development perspective that would lead me to believe that any success from Red next year could be sustainable. Does he have a chance to change my mind sure but it cant be words at this point I need to see it on the court.

Say he does make the tournament next year what then? Extend him because that is what normally happens. Just sounds a whole bunch like Dino.
Everyone wants to bash on how you can't compare Football to Basketball. I don't see why

Autry had a 6-6 Season last year in comparable football terms. Never really sniffed a real postseason.
This year his current record is around 1-5. His only win being against the equivalent of Holy Cross. No P5 wins.

Speaking of UNC, if you take a look at what their fans are saying the Fire Hubert Davis voices are getting louder after getting beat up by Louisville yesterday.

But yeah, lets go waste another year, and be national embarrassment so we can stay in lockstep with history... I mean come on, the keep red crowd cant even point to his abilities anymore to defend him.
lol

It will come down to advice from the accountant, but won't it also be as simple as if there's a really good candidate available in the Spring JW might make a move, but if no one sticks out in a secret search then Red gets another year while JW continues to look?

100% Red isn't the long-term answer. I'm not supporting Red beyond the fact that I want Melo involved and I believe he won't be if Red is fired after this year. If not for Melo I would fire him today

I'm sure Melo sees the writing on the wall too, Kiyan isn't coming here to go 17-14.
Yeah this idea that melo is somehow attached to red is ridiculous. Melo wants his kid to be put in the best position to maybe make the NBA, that isn't likely to happen under red. For all we know, its possible Kiyan was only considering USC because he wasn't completely sold on red

Red is not a bad coach, Red is not a good coach. He is just meh. This program can not afford to have meh coaching A change can not be made soon enough. How long the powers let this continue will tell us a lot.

I think you are overestimating the Red-Melo connection. The look on Kiyan's face and the roar from the crowd when he was announced seemed like THE connection. There is a mutual affinity between Melo (and, by extension, Kiyan) and all things SU, including the fan's admiration. Of course, Red is a part of that affinity. But it runs much deeper than Red, IMO.

The other night I was out having a drink at a local place and one the assistant coaches was next to me with someone I can only assume to be a donor. They spent most of the time watching the Siena/Cornell game on a phone.

So it’s happening, but probably no where near the degree that HCFB grinds. And I get it, that would be the absolute worst part of the job for me, but probably the most essential.
Who picked up the check!

Perhaps that was a bit harsh, but i consider BC to be an embarrassment to basketball every year and they might wipe the floor with this team.
It wasn’t harsh. All of our current metrics point to being an embarrassment right now compared to what we’re accustomed to. But there’s still a small pocket of people on this board who can’t accept reality.

- Red not long term answer

- "Need" Melo's money

- Melo pays for a team so talented that Red and Kiyan can't fail

- Make tournament

- "Successful" season and going into the end of his initial contract so give Red an extension to keep it from being a lame duck situation

- Stuck with Red long term

That seems like the most likely way that things go in that situation, no? Seems like circular logic if the exercise starts with the idea that Red isn't the long term answer. Idk.

A successful year 3 means that Kiyan/Sadiq/Fennell worked out well and maybe the portal was better. But I think it’s pretty clear as far as coaching ability goes that Red isn’t the guy. We can’t rely on top 15 classes every year to be competitive, we lack an offensive and defensive identity after 2 years and it’s a major problem.

La La Anthony Promises To Be 'Syracuse-Geared Out' At Kiyan's Games

Well she’ll be buying tickets and orange gear ha
That's pretty typical, I don't think this means they are putting millions on the table to build up SU NIL.

That's saying she will attend some games with celeb friends, and be cheering from the sidelines etc...Lebron did the same for his son, and donated shoes to team members.

But putting up millions to build up the NIL war chest for SU? I don't see it.

I think this makes a coach's job harder...can you even bench Kiyan at a game his mom brings 20 friends to see her son play? What if losses pile on? How would that make his mom look in front of her friends?

Sorry I don't see this at all.

When Fran was hired, he had to convince OG, Wax, Barron, etc. to stay. Essentially re-recruit them. We saw how that worked out. For argument's sake, say Red is fired and Hodgson hired. If he can recruit like we think he can, no reason why he couldn't re-recruit Kiyan and Sadiq.

And Kiyan and Sadiq have question marks to their game that will need to be coached up. Do we trust that's going to happen? I'm done believing Frosh are going to make us that much better.
In fact my nightmare is next year stars align and we do well and have to extend Red.

What do you think our record will be next year (range) if we keep Red and Kiyan comes? And how does that matter in the slightest if you agree Red isn’t the long term answer?

You’ve already accepted long term this is going to be a complete failure and a disaster for the program long term - is there at least a quantifiable short term upside you’ll hang your hat on to declare keeping Red a “success”?

Are Sadiq and Kiyan better then Donnie and Choppa? A liitle but not enough to be a huge difference. Red will get a year 3 but i do not believe that hes the long term answer. To hide Reds coaching with talent i think we need 4-5 million which is double what they had this year. Are donors going to contribute to Red after 2 missed tournaments and likely below .500 record this year.
