Wildhack rolls the dice!

This is a legit high risk high reward situation. The questions are many but the potential to find a diamond in the rough is there.

The biggest question is is he smart enough. Smart enough to make proper on the field in game decisions. Smart enough to put together an effective, And most importantly experienced In the ways he is not, staff and managing them yes, but still letting them do their thing.

Is he smart enough to install discipline, this by NOT being every kids friend, tough love and not being a “players coach”. And is he smart enough to know then implement the out of the box thinking with X’s and O’s And players alike that’ll be necessary to succeed at a school like syracuse.

This position requires lots of smarts, and I’d imagine in the interview process this is what they were trying to glean and decipher.

So if this really is a done deal he must have absolutely killed it in his interviews assuaging any concerns about his “smarts” or at least his potential in that regard.

So with all the known-positives he has in his cache and with this one big issue being addressed that’s all we can go from and support the guy going forward, at least until and after the first game in sept. ‘24, hoping for a Mac like ascent and not a gerg like decent and cratering. As always, time will tell
He's from Camden I don't think we need to worry about toughness.

I have wondered whether there really was any search process. If so it certainly did not result in a stellar list of candidates/finalists (other than Mullen who I’m not convinced was for real).
Who else did you want to see?

You are assuming the right questions were asked to go along with assuming the answers were good.

Not hard to ID skill guys. ID OL and developing them is a different story. Just look at Colorado this year.

Also I don’t trust anything involving Herm.

man I hope you're wrong, but you might not be. Wanted Chesney as well. Lets hope wildhack knows things we don't and hope to be pleasantly suprised
I think if he is here long enough to finish the initial contract, best case Locksley and worst case Hafley. If he is better he will be gone in 3. If he is worse he will also be gone in 3.

The comment about Herman Frazier is baseless.

He is a pro, who has experience in all aspects of college athletics and athletic administration.

Paul Chryst for example.
I didn’t see a lot of great names thrown out there by pundits at the start. Seems like the pool of likely possible options was not great, but maybe like you point, out some were missed.

Yep I’m assuming basic business competence and interviewing skills. If as you’re suggesting they don’t have even that modicum of competency, yikes. Believe I’ve heard bayside say they’re good in that regard so I’ll go with that and hope that is accurate.

JW said he was surprised by who reached out. I’d really like to know who they were

IMO, these types of statements, especially someone of high(er) leadership, is rather disingenuous. I mean, what is the point? With all of the obstacles that are said here repeatedly facing this program, etc., is he insinuating by "surprised" that these are high level, established, proven track record types coaches at this P5 level? Yet, proceeds and apparently hires an individual that most (other than those in the inner most circles of the profession) has never heard of.

Or, does he mean by "surprised," those reaching out being folks that were looking to make a major career change, just as he did 7 years ago?

I can't seem to get on board with this one. Hiring a position coach as a HC to run a multi-million dollar P5 program when he has never done that before is rolling the dice. I am impressed with his recruiting prowess. Are experienced position coaches and coordinators going to be OK working for a rookie HC?

I’m totally pumped. This maybe one of those times we get rivered and lose all our money but at least we had the guts to bet big. We are in an 0-2 hole, down 3, bases jacked bottom 9…time to back leg one into the seats. the single

Dont lost site of the recruiting that doesnt happen.

Its one thing to recruit 4-5 stars at GA and get many of them

But at SU its about getting the 3 stars that matter. Is he also good at seeing what the upside of a player is. Maybe at GA he sees the 3 star and says that are a low 4 star value but he has 20 others ahead of him. or did he see the 4 star and recruit him and he became a 5 star once the big boys got involved?

Our meat and potatoes is going to be the 3 star with upside until we get better. If we get 15 Tuckers instead of 15 Greenwoods.

I think this is a mistake - but really hoping it works out.

To me this is the Miami Hurricanes approach. Just get the recruits to campus and everything else will work itself out. Except it usually doesn’t, and with NIL and the portal it’ll be tough to keep any big name recruits at SU even if he can get them in the first place.

Chesney was the way to go. Will be interesting to watch both of their careers going forward.

Next year we play Holy Cross.

Whoever wins, was the right choice.

What if brown was the 1st choice?

Getting talented players is the most important factor in building programs.

The bigger, the stronger, the faster the players, the better the coaches will coach.
You mean like all the 5* at TAM that Fisher brought in and never coached properly. The most important aspect of Football besides god given talent is coaching!
