Will JB's Thursday press conference be broadcast live anywhere?

Boeheim reiterates responsibility for actions of those under him and apologizes for those actions.

Boeheim: "One violation is one too many. But I believe the penalty imposed on the university and myself are unduly harsh."

Boeheim: NCAA is punishing current students for actions of people no longer associated with the university.

Boeheim said he will appeal.

Boeheim on retirement: "I am 70 years old. It's obvious that there is a timeframe for me as the head basketball coach."

Boeheim said that three years is probably longer than he was planning on staying, but it's "probably right for this program."

Boeheim: "I believe three years is right for me to be able to do my job as best as I can."

Boeheim: "All of our recruits will understand what's going to happen when in most cases coaches leave, everybody is stuck."

Boeheim says Hopkins is a great coach, and will be working with him every step of the way

Boeheim asked about Hopkins' future. Jokes that he doesn't get to make all decisions. If he did, SU would still play in Manley Field House.

Boeheim: "It's a myth that I run things at Syracuse University." Says he didn't want to go to Big East back in the day.

Boeheim: "I fervently hope" that Mike Hopkins becomes the next head coach, but knows it's up to Syverud and Board of Trustees.

Boeheim said he has spoken with Syverud about the hiring of the next head coach.

Boeheim on Cornish: "There was no reason to believe that this man would provide impermissible benefits to student-athletes." Boeheim reiterates that Cornish was vetted pre-hire. Boeheim learned of Cornish's actions after the NCAA investigation began, he said. Boeheim: I did not know about any violations at the Oneida YMCA. Had I know, I would have taken action.

He was talking about Leo there and the volunteer work.

Boeheim reiterates that the NCAA declined him a second interview on his involvement in the investigation.

Boeheim: "There's no way that I would ever run away from an investigation in progress. ... This is the focus of my life."

Boeheim: "I had no plans to coach this long. This investigation has made it imperative."

Boeheim: "The reason I never thought about retirement is because I was never able to (due to the ongoing investigation)."

Boeheim said he plans on being here next year, "but beyond that I have no plans." Calls three years "a long time."

Boeheim said the 2013 Final Four would've been a good note to go out on, but couldn't consider it with NCAA investigation in progress.

Boeheim: The paper in question - I am not allowed to look at papers, talk to professors. I could have taken it, looked at it and not known the citations were not written by him.

Boeheim on Fab Melo's paper: "Anybody could've looked at the paper and not known that two citations were put into the paper."

Boeheim when asked by NCAA how Fab Melo wrote a 10-page paper on his life in two days: "I think he could've written it in four hours."

Boeheim: "There has been a mischaracterization by the constant critics who say, 'All these guys shouldn't be in college.'"

Boeheim: SU has never admitted someone in the basketball program who could not do the work here.

Boeheim: Syracuse has never admitted a player who didn't deserve to be here academically. Students can struggle in class, athlete or not.

Boeheim: "I think there's a little racism involved when they talk about not taking this guy or that guy." Mentions foreigners (like Melo).

Wow! He just dropped the racism card with people implying certain students can't do the work. Wow. He is ALL IN.

Not sure he should have gone there.

Boeheim on why basketball program received bulk of penalties instead of football: "(Football) student-athletes were first to go to the Y."

Boeheim: Football had three cases of academic fraud, no charges were brought.

Not sure he should have gone there.
You know out of everything said today, that is gonna get the most headlines for people looking for "H0T Takes!" across the country.

Boeheim said he doesn't think Hopkins' status "is important right now." Wants to focus on his immediate future and that of the program.

He is directing alot at brent axe..i love it. Axe is constantly chiming in that coach RUNS the university.

Boeheim: "The only discussion that I've had with the chancellor is that I intend to retire in three years." ... "I stand by that statement."

Boeheim on having a set date of departure: "I'm not Derek Jeter. There will be no farewell tour."

Boeheim on his set departure: "When I go into an arena and they cheer for me, I'll know it's time."

Exactly. People will latch onto that which will take away from the rest of what he's said.
