Just speculating. We have won the BE conference outright just twice: 2009-10 with 3 loses and 1990-91 with 4 loses (we have shared the title a bunch of times).

No way this team should lose to any unranked team this year, even in the BE. However, we play 7 ranked BE teams and four are currently in the Top 10. To how many of them do we lose?

By the way, our best performance ever was with the Pearl (1985-86 team). That team had just 2 loses and shared the honors with St. John's.

I will go way on a limb and say we lose just once before the tourney.

I'm not sure if any team has ever gone through the Big East with only one loss, and I dont think we are anywhere near the best team to ever play in the Big East. I do think we are the best team in the Big East right now, but I also think there are a few teams talented enough to overtake us if things fall right for them.

I cant even fathom having fewer than 3 losses this year, and my guess is they end up with somewhere between 3 and 6 regular season losses. That's not an insult to the team by any stretch, just looking at things realistically. Our schedule is loaded towards the back end, kind of like the New York Giants. They started with a gaudy record and then fell off, even though their level of play has stayed pretty much the same. If we came out of January with more than one loss I will be worried because you cant play long stretches against good teams without piling up a few losses.

Well if it never happened before it certainly will never happen in the future.
Kind of like CNY having the Warmest November ever this year.

Yeah, better come in before the limb breaks. History suggests that we'll have consecutive losses at some point between the third week of January and 2nd week of February. I think that losing streak is as much SU basketball as Boeheim or the 2-3 zone.

not counting the first year of the league when they played a 6 game schedule, UConn went 17-1 one season back in the 90s, and St. John's had a one loss season in a 16 game schedule in the 80s.

Sticking with 18 game schedules, UConn has had several other 16-2 seasons and Louisville went 16-2 a couple years ago. Those are the best records in BE history. SU's 85-86 team that went 14-2 is up there, but not at the very top.

as far as winning the BE, Pomeroy did a simulation running the season 10000 times and Syracuse was the runaway favorite, winning nearly 61% of the simulated seasons. Marquette was second best at 12%; nobody else topped 10%.

Yes we will win the BE outright this season IMO. We are the best team right now and unlike other seasons we can still improve a lot IMO. We have depth to overcome plenty of possible issues. Uconn is the only team that I see having as much talent as us and at this point we are much further along than they are.

by the time Uconn figures it out, they may have a few losses.

Remember that our last 7 games include UConn twice, L'Ville twice and GT. There is possibility there to lose a few in a very short space of time which could have a big impact on our ranking and seeding. It's always better to spread losses out. This will be a big challenge for us late.

I really don't like how the schedule broke down this year.

We know this team is good, but that Feb stretch is killer.

It sucks that the 4 games we're most likely to lose are all in mid to late Feb, meaning losses there will be much more clear in the committees mind, and have more impact on our seeding than a loss in Jan would.

Well if it never happened before it certainly will never happen in the future.

Of course it could happen skurey. The lottery shares that belief with you. Hey, you never know.

Just once, I'd like to see Syracuse win it all - the regular-season title, the tournament championship and the NCAA crown.

That says a lot.

One way to fix that.....win 'em.
