Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

Which one?

On the football side, anyone remember Robert Washington? He verballed on my wedding day. I remember checking in to this board in the hours leading up to the ceremony as I was getting ready.
Didn’t they post a pre-recorded commitment video that had him committing to Florida where he actually wanted to go, but he was pushed into committing to SU by his family and they had to re-post a video, or something like that? Sums up the Shafer era well

Chicago, Wrigley Building clock tower in the background. My son and I were just there on such a cruise two weeks ago.
I was two weeks ago as well (but for a wedding...they had their rehearsal dinner on the boat).

Robert's career fell apart but on the bright side recruiting him led us to Moe Neal.

If we get Calvin, it is in part going to be due to Fran not getting severely outbid. Fran can close the gap when he thinks its worth it because his network will give him the extra cash when Fran pounds the table. They trust Fran because of the other times guys require more money and Fran says, sorry your good not great, EVEN IF HIS NETWORK WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT TO HIM.

We will never will all the battles (frankly nobody does) but when Fran locks in (like Samuel last year or McCord before him), Fran has built the trust factor to get what he needs, when he really needs it.

I have absolutely no inside information, but I do work in a business where large sums of money are entrusted with others and the tie breaker is almost always transparency, trust and honesty. The easist way to break that trust is always be talking your book (boy crying wolf) and thats where Frans 'realness' comes back to us in spades.

Wild thing. I literally just ran into Oronde in Vegas. He said he talked to Calvin's mom yesterday and it’s looking good.
Former players who are extremely busy with getting ready for the NFL, taking time out of their day to talk to a prospective recruits mom! I love hearing this version of the culture. Our former players care about and want to be proud of being apart of the Syracuse program!

I just find it crazy how cool and reserved Oronde is. We're at a beach club, hundreds of women around, no drink in his hand, and he's just chatting it up with me for a half hour. It almost feels like he was happy to talk to someone he could get his mind off the craziness with lol.

Oronde and Russell similar builds right, would likely be used the same way in Nixon's offense. I could totally see there being some contact there. Especially since Russell's mom was an athlete as well. Interesting nugget from 702...thanks for sharing on the board.

From what I hear about how much he is a student of the game, studying film. He’s going to be a very intelligent and good offensive coordinator in Football once he is done with what may be a legendary NFL career.

Oronde said Cuse is in the top 2. He didn't say FOR SURE that we were getting him, but he sounded confident that we were in the driver's seat. That's all I could get out of him.
Any other interesting tidbits about the program or worth sharing?
