Yikes, Derrick Coleman’s IG

And he was proven totally correct.

Notice he never crapped on John Wallace for taking his number.

Derrick and Carmelo honestly have to take the bull by the horns and get control of the program from Georgetown Kent before its too late.

For the record:

Warrick never crapped on MCW or Maliq or Donnie for taking #1.
GMac never crapped on Dion or Jeremi or Judah for taking #3.
CJ Fair never crapped on anybody over #5.
Jonny Flynn never crapped on anybody over #10.
Paul Harris and Scoop never crapped on anybody over #11.
Duany never crapped on anybody over #13.
Moten never crapped on anybody over #21.

Seems like DC is the only outlier.

None of those situations are apples to oranges.

We could have won today and shut up DC right? Or thats not an option beating a 4-5 garbage team without their best player?

Wow. Lol.

Basically said it wasn’t a cool post and they’re supposed to be family and uplift each other, not tear each other down.
Naheem, a 22 year old college student, shows he’s vastly more mature than a 50-something Syracuse legend, who should probably grow up already. Very disappointed in DC.

Coleman is calling out one player solely because he’s a child who’s been throwing a tantrum for months because said player is wearing 44. DC is not making some bigger statement about the program. It’s selfish and dumb.
Dereck has been immature since 1987. Nothing has changed there.

I’m saying what he’s saying isn’t completely wrong on its face. Guy isn’t good.

Eddie has not panned out, or at least not yet. My concerns stemmed from the only time I saw him last year, in the PAC12 Championship game when the Oregon big man ate him for lunch. When I posted that, others pointed out that he had a good NCAA tourney.

But as far as I can see, nothing has changed for him. Our loss.

That's not what this is about, though. DC isn't talking about the "legacy of 44"; he is talking about "the legacy of DC in DC's mind." There IS no legacy of 44 or any other number in SU hoops. We honor names, like "the legend of Pearl" or "the legend of Melo", etc.

We don't even have the legacy of 44 in football, because it doesn't exist anymore. Young fans, if they even care, can read about it in the history books, like the War of 1812. It is no longer relevant, and SU is to blame for that.

Also, DC isn't some random, anonymous internet poster ripping one of our players. He is an SU hoops legend and needs to act with some sort of dignity in matters like this. Bitch about a player to your friends, but act with class publicly.

So this is about the Legacy of DC, not 44, and it is DC who is watering his legacy down through actions like this that no other true SU hoops legend would lower themselves to do.

OK, but, devil's advocate here (and it's going to look 10% pettier in print than it does in my head right now):

Dave Bing didn't crap on Carmelo and Pearl didn't crap on McNamara when they took their numbers because they were cool, but also because some Adult In The Room decided that kids who hadn't earned it shouldn't be wearing jerseys that hung on the blue curtain.

These days, when a fat guy who makes six figures for getting five rebounds a game needs the echo chamber to remind him he's the special-est kid in the lockerroom, the Adults have left the Room.

Yeah we get it. Coleman is a bozo. Did it take social media to realize this. Loudest tin can is the emptiest. I’ve done plenty of shots w him at local west At msg. He’s a moron. No one will dispute it.

He’s not wrong. Syracuse does marketing and nostalgia really abysmally. Like epically bad

You bring in a hired gun and pay him and use 44 as a bargaining chip. What you get in return is a guy 4 years from working the greeting area of Costco. He can’t move. It’s just bad GMng by SU sprinkling in bad PR w 44.

Basically agree with everything you just wrote except the “Costco greeter in four years” dig. That seems like something DC would say.

Right or wrong (and, imo, if DC has an issue, keep it in the family, don’t gripe on social media, come on), it’s just one more thing this program doesn’t need right now.

We have enough issues already.

DC is a selfish, self-centered moron.

44 being “legendary” is a FOOTBALL thing.

It’s basically a coincidence that he happened to wear it also.

There were plenty of “meh” 44’s in Cuse football.

Here is the list of football players post-Floyd who wore 44:

Richard Panczyszyn, quarterback, 1967-69 - WHO'S HE?

Mandel Robinson, running back, 1977 - WHO CARES?

Glen Moore, running back, 1981-82 - SO WHAT?

Michael Owens, running back, 1987-89 - decent. THX for Billy!!

Terry Richardson, running back, 1990-93 - ok.

Rob Konrad, fullback, 1995-98

DC is basically like Jim Brown shitting all over Mandel Robinson or Glen Moore.

We can’t be glib about a boat sinking….on a message board?

I’ll revise he will be working as an associate at Jones Day in 5 years. Don’t need your legs to write legal briefs
