This is a true story. I saw James Taylor at the War Memorial, probably around 1972. The audience kept calling for 'Fire & Rain' and he kept saying no, because the song was too raw and personal for him. He finally relented, but wasn't happy about it. (Did I mention that we were sitting next to, I'm not making this up, three nuns?) About halfway through the song, he unleashes a stream of profanity in the lyric, and the three penguins waddle to the exit. I suspect he hadn't conquered his drug issues yet.
