Has anyone heard if there is going to be a Fanfest this year? Last year it was canceled because of the weather.

Yes, there will be one.

The date hasn't been announced yet.

I feel like SU owes me a plane ticket since I flew in for last years, and they cancelled it on me. I was a very angry CuseTroop

The parking lots at Manley Field House open at 1 p.m. and the festivities begin at 2 p.m. in the "Fun Zone," located on Wohl Field behind the Ensley Athletic Center. This year's "Fun Zone" features an all-sports skills clinic with appearances by various Syracuse Olympic sport student-athletes. It also includes a fan photo booth, a caricature artist and balloon animal-makers for the kids. Fans also have the opportunity to interact with a host of different vendors offering giveaways and samples, including Preferred Mutual, Pepsi, Life Water, Driver's Village, Perry's Ice Cream and Aftershokz.

Second-year head coach Dino Babers and the 2017 Orange football team take the field at the SU Soccer Stadium at 4 p.m. After the coaches put the student-athletes through a series of drills, some lucky fans in attendance will be selected to take part in a "Fans vs. Football" skills challenge. Fans will go head-to-head against SU players in an extra-point/field-goal kicking contest, a passing accuracy challenge, a punt-catching competition and the 40-yard dash. Unique rules and and modifications will be made to even the playing field.

Following the skills challenge, Babers will address the audience and all fans will be invited onto the field for selfies with the student-athletes.

that makes it highly unlikely anyone from out of town comes
I appreciate that they are willing to do something, but I am deeply disappointed they have cut the only open practice that remained.

The stuff they are replacing it with is of little interest to me. I don't think I am going to go.

This might be great for kids, casual fans, etc. I hope a lot of them go and have a great time,

Not sure it us going to be popular with the die hards that really just want to watch football. I continue to be concerned with how badly out of touch the athletic department is with the fan base.

I thought it might get better with Wildhack. Guess not. Might get worse, in fact.

Maybe Dino doesn't want to waste one of his limited practices on a worthless vanilla scrimmage where we throw the same bubble screen 40 times, and run up the middle the other 40?

Yep. Spring game was boring.

As long as we win, I'm cool with it.

I sympathize with the fans that want to see a practice. It would be nice if they could do an open practice just for donors to show some appreciation, as it seems like you really have to be a high roller to get some of the really nice benefits.

That being said, it seems like Dino is very secretive about his practices and they are limited. If he doesn't want to waste one running vanilla stuff and it leads to more wins, I'm totally on board with that too

It's Dino's second fall - still installing his plan. My guess is this 'practice' will return in the future when his system is fully implemented. I think Dino knows fans want to see this stuff. Right now, it's not his top priority. Just my opinion.

Well I am a huge fan, a season ticket holder, and someone who never missed but also never put much stock in the football portion of the event. For me growing up, and for my kids now, it's the opportunity to rub elbows with, take pics with, and have the personal experience with the program we put so much passion into.

Just hoping it doesn't get cancelled again.

I am sure he doesn't. Heck, if he had his druthers, there would be no spring game either. Not that the spring game was anything other than a worthless vanilla scrimmage as well.

There was a published breakdown of practice accessibility by school in the ACC a few days ago. SU isn't unusual eliminating open practices completely. Most of the other schools that are doing it though have been providing a better product for their fan base and have much larger fanbases.

Not sure continuing to take things away from the die hards is a great strategy to grow the fan base.

I agree that if it all ends up in more wins, it really doesn't matter what the athletic department does to the SU football fans. Let's hope that happens soon.

Exactly. Apologies if this sounds reductive, but this is really the only priority. It's just a game, but fan support is the reason why coaches make ridiculous money and the school rakes in all this revenue. The wins wouldn't matter if nobody cared.

There's enough to dislike about college sports. Paranoid football coaches and the athletic departments and administrations that enable this behavior are too much.

I'm a little disappointed, too. When I spoke to him last year on his show, he indicated there would be more access in his 2nd year.
